Gee! I thought that all American high schools were more like BLACKBOARD JUNGLE... ? :g

My high school was an all-male institution, based upon the British public school model .... so the film which most resembles my experiences would be closer to Lindsay Anderson's IF, starring Malcolm McDowell in his first starring effort.

Garth.

I'm late to this thread, so almost everyone beat me to "others": COOLEY HIGH, HEATHERS, and CARRIE...

Wonder how the new "MEAN GIRLS" will stack up against HEATHERS & CARRIE?

Speaking of mean girls, and Die Feuerzangenbowle, how about:

MAEDCHEN IN UNIFORM???

Technically a return to high school movie, "Grosse Pointe Blank" definitely has its moments.

One of our favorite films....

Dr. Oatman (Alan Arkin) - Yes, get out of town, drink some punch, visit with what's-her-name.

Martin (Cusack) - Debby.

Dr. Oatman - Yes, Debby. Don't kill anybody for a few days, see how it feels.

Martin - OK, I'll give it a shot.

Dr. Oatman- No, don't shoot anybody!

Martin (upon finding that his boyhood home has become an Ultamart) - You can never go home again Oatman. But I guess you can shop there!

"Rushmore"

"Election"

(yes, I guess I have a twisted view of high school!)

I just noticed "Clueless" on the list -- the kids' wealth was so cartoony, it kind of made it more about that than high school for me -- but the successful match between the two teachers moved me to tears! I liked that part from the adult perspective -- the possibility of romance and change blooming in the midst of your arid 9-to-5 rut!

Plus, great line from "Cher" explaining to her girlfriends why she's still a virgin: "Well, you know how picky I am about SHOES, and they only go on my FEET!"

I don't know a those movies but I bought the Freaks and Geeks box this afternoon. I just watched the 1st one.

That was high school.

Yes!!! :tup:tup I voted for Dazed and Confused, but Freaks and Geeks nailed it even better, for me. Each of the episodes is like a small movie, too.

The main difference between my high school experiance and the one in Dazed and Confused (which edged out Fast Times by a nose) was that in my school we didn't have that bizarre tradition of the upper classmen hazing the freshmen like that. This must have been an East Texas thing. (There was bullying and harrassment, but it was a lot less organized.)
