  1. Agree about Jimmy Rowles. This is a nice one BTW.
  2. Been there several times. Bill Collins is the owner/proprietor. Trumpet man. UNT. Really nice guy. Wonderful collection of horns from Louie, Harry, Miles etc. Purchased a lot from the Maynard Ferguson estate. Great artwork of the jazz greats done by local artists. One room is a reincarnation of an imagined 50's jazz club. He and his family have put in the effort and it shows. Open only a couple of times a week so check before going! The museum is right off the square in Sherman. They have performances at the museum from time to time. This weekend I believe, the city of Sherman is having a festival that includes a couple of big bands from Dallas including the DJO and Memphis Brass! Got that word of mouth so check before going. I always chuckle that there is a Jazz Museum in Sherman, Texas. You kinda expect one in New Orleans, New York, Chicago, Kansas City..... but Sherman, Tx. ?? Only in Texas is all I can say!! hahaha As kh1958 said above, Booker Ervin and Kenny Dorham both hailed from those parts. Sherman/Denison,Texas. The twin cities!! Check it out. It's a fun afternoon.
  3. Upon recommendations I read on this site. Different Duke but Nice!
  4. 2005..... I heard Wayne about this time as well with Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade. Remains the best jazz program I ever heard. In preparation for the concert I had spent a couple of weeks or so listening to Wayne in very heavy rotation. Mostly his leader dates. I was not disappointed. The program was an hour and 40 minutes or so, of continuous jazz that told us where he had been; where he was now; and hinted at where he was going. It was like a school book lesson in some respects. He would play an old tune, evolve it into a new tune on his current release and before he left it; show where it could go next time. Unbelievable. It was like he was saying look where I can go with this and look how this came from that. He continued to weave the present, with the past, and even the future in random fashion. Truly remarkable. A text book lesson in some respects. It was emotional, intelligent, and enjoyable all at the same time. I attribute my enjoyment of the program to the time I spent ahead of time revisiting his old work. I often suggest to those who question his most recent work to spend significant time listening to his whole catalog before taking on his most current effort. It is all there! His career and life on full display. Wayne is a treasure. Just my opinion, FWIIW
  5. Every now and then you have to go back to the well. :-)
  6. Nice... Thanks bertrand. Not familiar with her.
  7. Have them both on vinyl. Entered the jazz world thru this door. Stuck with it until it went smooth...... Dave Koz took me out. That is when I went back to the roots and have stayed there ever since. Almost never listen to these any more. Two of his better albums, IMHO. I also liked that one with the red and yellow cover: I forget the name. (As I like it, maybe????) Currently listening to
