It is possibly out there but much harder to find since the person who was the source for many of the Blue Note dates that got leaked does not seem to have made a copy of this one before it got lost.
Does anyone know who got all of Bob Belden's tapes? There might be a copy in there. The only other person I know is Louis L. and I don't know how to get hold of him anymore.

You are suggesting the interview might not be an accurate transcription of what Drayton actually said? Would this have been out of sloppiness or a disingenuous attempt to further muddy the waters and advance the faulty Denis Charles narrative? I can totally see the latter, except I do not see the actual point of it. Claiming it is Denis rather than Huss will not move an extra 500 copies. Could it be that the error was discovered after the Denis estate had already been paid? Do estates get one flat fee in this situation and then it is over?
Someone else with industry experience can correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought royalties only went to the leader. If every sideman has to be part of the deal, how do they ever release any big band records?

I recommend any of you over the age of about 55 to ask your doctor to get your cardiac calcium score. It's a simple CT of your heart and even if your health insurance won't cover it, it only costs about $150 out of pocket.
My cousin Dan recommended I get it done because of my family history and my lifelong battle with high cholesterol. His dad (my uncle) had to get two triple bypass surgeries before he was 45. At the age of 54, Dan got his cardiac calcium score & it was 700. One of his arteries was 95% blocked. A week later, he got a quadruple bypass.
I decided it was better to be proactive so I had it done. My score was over 1200! A cardiac catheritization showed that I have some pretty significant blockages but they are not recommending surgery so here I am - diet & exercise.
Thank god I retired in 2023 or the stresses at work may have already killed me.

Kevin,
I'll take them!
PM me your mailing address and I'll get them out.

Since I don't mind oversized shirts I don't need to part with any of my jazz or blues tees.
I have been diagnosed with some blockages so I've pretty much cut out all fried foods & I rarely eat fatty meats now. I eat most chicken breast. It's amazing how much you can lose just doing those two things. I miss french fries & chicken fingers though.
I've lost about 30 pounds since October of last year after I got the news. I hope to lose a few more but you have to be careful not to lose it too fast.

One of the good things about having your cardiologist put you on a low fat/cholesterol diet is that you lose a few pounds if you follow it. One of the bad things is that your clothes don't fit anymore.
I have 3 Jazz tee shirts that I was going to drop in the Savers/Goodwill bin but thought that since two of the shirts were given to me by forum denizen Lonson, I'd offer them up here first. These are used/washed but certainly not worn out. Best thing is, they're free to whoever wants them.
The two INIQLO shirts which I got from Lon ("Out To Lunch" & "Judgement!") are XXL, which is more like L to slightly XL here in the US.
The Miles shirt is XL, and came as a bonus with a Miles Davis 45 rpm Miles Runs The Voodoo Down/In a Silent Way box released in 2013.
Did I mention free?

Yes it is. It’s great, though not as outstanding as for instance Now He Sings Now he Snobs or Oblique. But still highly recommended
I've never been a fan of "Some Other Stuff", so a premium LP pressing isn't going to change that.

Didn't Blue Note merely license the Somethin' Else items?
I've been told that Somethin' Else is a subsidiary of Blue Note in Japan. The Tone Poet series has been used to release stuff from labels other than Blue Note like Capitol, Pacific Jazz, United Artists & Transition. I'm sure if they chose to release this as a Tone Poet LP, they could work something out with Somethn' Else.

There's a copy on discogs right now for $18.36, which is a steal for this rarity. I would jump on that if I were you.
Hmmm.... I would guess that someone from "KUPIKU.US" is a member here as the $18.36 copy just jumped up to $33 since I posted this. Kinda scummy if that's what happened.

Joe Lovano - Tenor Time (Something Else Japan). Joe blowing on standards with a nice rhythm section.
Jim Anderson captured this session beautifully at Avatar Studios. I have no idea why Blue Note doesn't put this out in their Tone Poet LP series, as it would make an excellent choice

It's a good record. I really like Joe's playing here (and elsewhere).
I do play it quite often but it's been a while. Time to play it again.

I have only just become aware of this record, which I am sure is a fine quartet session but probably not essential. I'm pretty intrigued, but also baffled as to why it's such a rarity. Every now and then you come across a record that is ridiculously expensive. With all the streaming and the many outlets, you wouldn't think this would be the case anymore.
There's a copy on discogs right now for $18.36, which is a steal for this rarity. I would jump on that if I were you.
It is a very enjoyable date if Joe blowing on standards is your thing. It is certainly not some sort of ground breaking session though.
When I got Joe to sign mine, his eyebrows went up and he was showing it to members of his band and saying, "See, it does exist".

The CD she made with Lovano, "Tenor Time", used to be impossible to find. A check of discogs, shows quite a few up for sale there now: https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/3597319530
She was also on a Japanese date with Phil Woods leading the band called "Cool Woods".

Some recent crate-digging yielded a British trad record I'd never heard of before - LIve at Woodcray by Graeme Hewitt's High Society Jazz Band, recorded in 1983. Graeme Hewitt is a talented clarinetist, most definitely influenced by Acker Bilk, and his band has that rock steady throb of the best New Orleans traditional jazz, which for a hot minute in the late fifties/early sixties in Great Britain became dance music for teenagers before being supplanted by the Beatles, the Stones and other British bands influenced by American blues.
The best British trad is the kind that adheres to the traditional (pre-Satchmo) New Orleans style (e.g., George Lewis). This record scratches that itch, and a bit of YouTube research revealed the happy news that, 40 years later, Mr. Hewitt is still leading his band and playing with even more authenticity that on this 1983 record.
(My apologies - I'm new here and can't figure out how to attach a photo)
The easiest way I've found is to go to discogs.com and find the LP. I think this is the LP you're talking about: https://www.discogs.com/release/26848298-Graeme-Hewitts-High-Society-Jazz-Band-Live-At-Woodcray
Once there, click on the cover photo, which brings it to the front of your screen, hover the cursor over the picture & click the right mouse button. When the menu shows up, click Copy Image. Come back here to your post and then put the cursor where you want the photo and hit Ctrl+v (paste). Like this:

The fate of the Wayne Shorter date is a mystery. Wayne listened to tons of live material of his current band to find material to release over the next few years (up to 5 albums worth I've heard) but no mention of this date.
The Jackie McLean session with Norman Conners is nowhere to be found anymore.....
Didn't Michael Cuscuna say that he gave the masters for that Shorter session back to Wayne? I know he did that with Horace Silver's "Live at Pep's" tapes.
I'm surprised to hear that the Jackie McLean session is gone as I could've sworn I knew someone who had it years ago... maybe I'm thinking of another date?

My new car is a 2025 Toyota Crown Signia in a color they call "Bronze Age".

HDMI cables carry audio & video and there is a handshake between the receiver and the AV equipment that can screw things up, especially if there is some sort of automatic sensing of what was turned on. Sometimes, I think they make some of these modern receivers too smart.

I wonder if Payton plays the keys on this CD? He plays the keys at his live shows almost as much as the trumpet.

Hello, I have a Viscount Legend Live that I use with a Leslie 122 via a combo pedal. I'm quite happy with it, but I've listened to the sound of the Legend One, which I think is much superior. I think it's the same engine as the Legend Soul. What I'm looking for is the best emulation of the scanner-based chorus vibrato I have on my real Hammond M100. The vibrato on the Legend Live is far from good! Do you think it's better on the Legend One?
I'm not interested in the other sounds of the Legend One, which I find uninteresting and unauthentic, apart from the analog synth sound.
I have a Rhodes Mark 2 at home that I use with an old Twin Reverb; it's unbeatable. The only keyboard that comes close to the "Rhodes" is the "Crumar seven" that I sometimes use.

Does anyone know the story of Brown leaving the Jazz Messengers in 1982? Most on-line stories say it was due to arthritis, which I can understand as I have just a touch of it in my left wrist and it can be painful. But Brown went on to teach at various schools and record 20+ albums, including quite a few live dates which would indicate that live performance was not an issue. Were Blakey's charts just too much for his arthritis?

I haven't been able to catch Bartz live in several years, probably due to COVID, but the last times I did see him perform, he was still playing great. I hope he makes his way back to the Boston area again.

Is there another one besides the on i flagged this morning (somebody begging for money for their dying mother) or is that the only one?
Either way. So far so good!
That's the only one so far but there was one other that I approved that smelled a bit off. There were also two that I didn't approve because their data was flagged by a spammer website I've been using.
-
I just approved all of the December new members and we got our first spammer. It's not as bad as I expected so far. I've probably approved about 100 new members and only one turned out to be a spammer, which is pretty good in my opinion.

Bob was asking me if I had heard the Japanese-only release, "The Piano", saying it was one of Herbie's best recordings. When I told him I had never heard it, he sent me a bunch of takes from the session. It turned out that he was in the middle of producing the 2004 reissue of this session.
