I recently left a job in a classified lab with those same restrictions you mention but we somehow managed to be able to stream Spotify in there. I assume the IT group somehow managed that one network port so that it was "one way", so we had no way to move data out but we could stream things in.

I laugh when people pay big bucks for these Robert Ludwig LPs as if they are rare. Yeah, if rare means a few hundred thousand copies.
I imagine that these days, It's not OK to post that cover image anymore.

I love this picture of the Nubble Lighthouse. I ride my bicycle up to this lighthouse nearly every day in the summer. It's only about a mile away from my house, so it's not a long ride.

Just finished during a workout - Lou Donaldson - Alligator Boogaloo, from the Classic Vinyl release. Sounds nice but it's still not my favorite Donaldson from that era. It's pretty short too.
Now playing - Van Morrison - Loondance... I mean Moondance. It's easy to get those two words mixed up when it comes to Van.

It's one of the few (only?) Music Matters LPs I didn't get that I regret today.

Booker Ervin - That's It! (Candid/Barnaby). I'd only ever seen this Barnaby version on LP and one time I got to chatting with Jack at Stereo Jack's where he assured me the audio was very good. He was right. It just looks like some kind of bootleg or grey market release but it does sound fine. Crazy story on the Barnaby label. Born out of one pop star's desire to buy his back catalog. Thanks Andy Williams.

This is a touchy topic in this country and likely in many countries. We are not going to solve it here.
Some people are offended by the n-word, whether or not it is used by a black or white person. Our thoughts here on our lowly Jazz discussion board are not going to change that. Companies that offer things like movies or music or even something as odd as Bud Light, need to understand that some of the things they do will upset some subset of their consumers.
MAX adding a disclaimer that Blazing Saddles uses racist language covers their ass somewhat and for that, I really can't blame them one bit. The last thing they need is to lose more subscribers. They're not doing that great financially as it is.

A bit in advance, but I bought tickets to see George Coleman play with One For All at Smoke in March. It's Coleman's 89th birthday celebration and since I'm pretty much retired at this point, I can finally do stuff like this. I haven't been to New York City since 1999 so it'll be interesting to see what's changed. I'm actually looking forward to it. I might even fit in a trip the Jazz Record Center or Academy.
I'm thinking about seeing Maria Schneider's orchestra at Birdland another night & probably Jerome Sabbagh or Steve Slagle at Smalls, a club I have yet to go to since they moved.

There are comics today that are still pretty far out there, telling jokes that you would never expect to hear. They are carrying the torch for guys like Pryor and Brooks. So if someone like Anthony Jeselnik ever makes a movie, the comedy will be just as twisted as Blazing Saddles but you may find yourself groaning at some of the jokes. Rape, pedophilia, incest, you name it & Jeselnik has made a joke about it.
And Netflix will probably put a disclaimer before that too.

My daughter started watching football back in 2001 when the Patriots won their first Super Bowl and she has become a bigger fan than I am. She loves watching the game. I think that the NFL getting more women to watch their sport can only benefit the league going forward.
And let's be honest here - a majority of the hatred for Taylor Swift has nothing to do with her new relationship with Kelce and a lot more to do with other aspects of her life which cannot be spoken of here.

I don't get why so many people get their panties in a bunch over Taylor Swift. It's not like she was advocating for anything other than her boyfriend's team.
The way I see it, she brought a lot of new football viewers, particularly young women, which can only be a good thing for that sport, which has a history of being pretty misogynistic.

When one becomes a forum supporter, they get a banner under their avatar. We used to get a small thank you gift from the team's pro shop, but that only happened for the first few years.
I think the reason it works is because it is completely voluntary and simple in its implementation. I don't know that "no ads" is what you want as the benefit here, but you might be able to come up with something like maybe a free song download or two. It's way better than footing the bill yourself if the donations don't keep coming in. -
I'm a member of a football forum and they offer an annual subscription for people who don't want ads while they surf the forums. I think it's $20/year and they offer an option to automatically charge you credit card for you. I & many others choose this and that forum has never had to have any fundraisers. Just a thought...

To this topic, Jim has posted on Facebook that the person who was re-doing the main organissimo webpage died suddenly & unexpectedly & she hadn't given him the login to go in a get the page back up. Hopefully he can get it working again.

Rudy used these 7.5 ips master tapes for the additional material, not the stuff that was originally released on LP back in 1957 (and maybe 1983?). He didn't elaborate on which tracks were from what tape but did say that this new set should sound incredible. I'm still thinking I'm going to get this new set.

Michael Cuscuna tells me that he actually found these 7.5 ips masters about 15 years ago and had Rudy Van Gelder use them for his CDs except for the LP master takes. He said the reason they used the 15 ips tape for the original LP tracks was too long to go into but from something Joe Harley said about this new reissue, it sounds like they didn't want to cut up those 7.5 ips tapes to reconstruct the original LP track order.
So this new release will be the first time we hear the original LP tracks from these 7.5 ips tapes. It will also be the first time we hear all of them without RVG's mastering, which in itself may be a good thing.
