"Live at Cafe Bohemia" on Night Lights

7 posts in this topic

Post updated with some quotes I came across in Downbeat last night from George Avakian, Billy Taylor and Roswell Rudd, as well as some more background info on the part Charlie Parker played in the Bohemia's switch to a live-jazz policy.

We're re-airing Live At Cafe Bohemia this week; it's already archived for online listening.

Next week: "Daddy-O! Father-and-Son Teams in Jazz."

Also, the Night Lights annual online fund-drive continues. I'll be posting two special fund-drive programs, "Good Vibes" and "The Prestige Records Story," in the next couple of weeks. Thanks to those who who have given to the drive; please consider making a contribution if you haven't already done so! Even just a few bucks helps us out.

You’re far too kind! ^_^ I need to finally get in gear with a long-planned show about the Five Spot, which will include comments from David Amram and Dan Wakefield (the latter a writer who hung out at the Five Spot frequently in the late 1950s and who wrote a memoir called New York In The Fifties). Coming in January, if all goes as planned. And I am going to at least pop my head in the door of the newly-reopened Cafe Bohemia when I’m in town for the Jazz Congress.

Love this record! There’s music from it in the show.
