Posted 9 Mar 2016 First time I heard him, I thought it was the most insane thing I'd ever heard, in a good way, like Airto only "freer". That was mostly a reaction based on a small sample size, but as time went on, the fondness only grew. RIP, much love, and can people stop dying for a little while so we can catch our breath? The two uncredited photos below appear in the same JazzTmes article, but not in this view. (Sorry, but today I'm not inclined to do Google Images searches that might lead me to the photo credits.) Posted 10 Mar 2016 RIP, really shocking. I had no idea he was ill, I saw a video from a talk show in Brazil recently, he played great. Such a master of colorist, he really brought the Brazilian thing to the fore in Metheny's music that laid the foundation that remains in spurts to this day. His support behind Lyle Mays on Lyle's self titled is beautiful

Posted 10 Mar 2016 Sad news Always an enjoyable presence on record. I did see him live two or three times most memorably with Don Cherry.
