Larry Kart
Everyone plays their asses off, especially Chu Berry (and Roy, too ... and the ensemble work):

Big Beat Steve
Yes, excellent tracks. Though, truth be told, they have been around a VERY long time for those inclined to seek them out and listen: 1971: RCA LPV-578 1990: RCA NL82180 Edited July 23, 2018 by Big Beat Steve
Larry Kart
Sure, they've been around (I have them on the latter CD), but did many of us here know of them? I thought, perhaps not.
HutchFan
Keep the recs coming, Larry (and everyone)! Whether they're from 1936 or yesterday. Doesn't matter. If you dig it, that's all that matters.
Big Beat Steve
@Larry Kart: Agreed, that's quite possible. But when you come across a session in this context that - regardless of how great it is - somehow seems to be a "staple" of small band swing reissues to you then you are a little bit baffled. That's all. And I would not want to step in your way either. Edited July 23, 2018 by Big Beat Steve
JSngry
What makes them scary? Other than maybe Gene Krupa's time not being particularly loose at these tempos (and not just here)? Doesn't keep anybody off, that's for sure!
