  1. Night Moves was a dud. Forgot about Miracle Worker, a good flic.
  2. I notice that the Donaldson discs are still sealed. This could get you in BIG trouble on this board. Better to pretend you listened to them, loved 'em, went out and bought a plastic wrap machine, and then re-sealed them yourself.
  3. I like Little Big Man, and tend to think that Bonnie and Clyde has not aged well - I also remember The Left Handed Gun, Paul Newman as Billy the Kid, in which he OD's on The Method. Fun movie, though.
  4. the soundtrack to Earthquake.
  5. buy a copy of Wavelab Essential. It costs something like $89-$99 dollars. Record your tracks onto it. Save the tracks as Waves. Convert the tracks to MP3s, which Wavelab does beautifully with excellent sound.
  6. "Allan Lowe? definitely someone who will do even more...if given the financial freedom" well, many people do creative work while in prison, rehab, or the Gulag. Somehow Maine manages to combine the most salient characteristics of each.
  7. it's funny, vis a ve Moms, above; but I've seen Moran on more than several occasions, and he does very little for me. and thanks for the plug, Moms. I've been waiting for that letter for a long time. But these days I can't even get a Maine Arts grant.
  8. it was nice; musicians and audience had a good time. I'm hoping the tape came out ok; I should have an idea within about a week - special thanks to Elissa Middleton who worked the video camera.
  9. and Darius Jones, a magnificent saxophonist:
  10. now, Lewis Porter:
  11. trying to get this right - first, Ros and Ray:
  12. yeah, I had it in, went back to photobucket to re-size, and now this site will not use the photbucket links, sorry. it was a great night. Everybody played well, people loved the music, and I'll probably fire my bass player this week, but aside from that I'm feeling good about it. I also have a pic of Darius Jones. All of a sudden Organissimo here is not taking the photos - I'll try again later.
  13. had a great night - Matt Mottel of Talibam on synth; Ray Suhy, guitar - a little blurry, but here's ray Anderson:
  14. genuinely nice guy - I hope to hook up with again at some point.
  15. best writing is the early stuff. I'm not a big fan of Naked Lunch et al. Also, I think his son, William Burroughs Jr, was a MUCH better writer.
  16. I have no idea - though I think $10 is correct, not $7
  17. happy to see this in today's NY Times: "Allen Lowe and the New Creole Orchestra (Saturday) Mr. Lowe, a saxophonist, guitarist and historian with an offbeat but dead-serious interest in American roots music, presides here over a program called “Blues and the Empirical Truth: Every Other Day I Have the Blues.” He’s in fine company, including the trumpeter Randy Sandke; the trombonists Roswell Rudd and Ray Anderson; the saxophonists Darius Jones; and the pianist Lewis Porter. At 10 p.m., 45 Bleecker, 45 Bleecker Street, at Lafayette Street, East Village , searchandrestore.com; $15; $7 for students. (Chinen)"
  18. thanks - by the way, I want to mention (though I'm not a disinterested observer) that Lewis Porter may well be the most interesting contemporary pianist that I've heard - mastery of every kind of harmony, inside and out. He's got a few new CDs that everyone should check out. amazing musician who has always played great but who has, of late, reached a very special musical place. see you Saturday:
  19. hey Marcello, would love to meet you. I'll be the guy who looks like Brad Pitt's twin. I mean the evil, drug-addicted, emotionally disturbed twin with the club foot and the lazy eye.
  20. Ann Powers emailed me for help on the id's, but I hadn't seen it, and her deadline didn't permit me to check it out.
  21. I actually have an LP somewhere of Joyce reading something or other.
  22. as a matter of fact, Orly may sit in on vocals - here she does her rendition of Born Free: and Spider Man may drop by: we also may have Benito belt out a blues: also, some special guests from the Tea Party Movement, which has formed a special orchestra, just for this event (yes, this is a crass appeal to the right wing jazz crowd: where are you, Berigan and Weizen?):
  23. thanks. currently am in a state of mild terror - got critics from the WSJ and the New Republic coming; also, several representatives of the Polish Navy band, as well as Newt Gingrich, Orly Taitz, and Pia Zadora.
