  1. The comp? Are you referring to the Universal Miles Davis, which reissues all the Blue Note material Davis recorded in the first half of the 'fifties?

you referred to a 2 disc miles comp in general so i was asking which one it is... i'm presuming it's this?

  2. i was asking all to whom the question applies, really. i have the 24-bit toshiba from a couple years ago, but these shm's have something to them. what is it? an analog air about them? headroom? all or none of the above? whatever it is, when i put one on i hear it. surely it's not a placebo effect...

  3. It would take me years to rip all my CDs. I'm sure I have better things to do. I've kind of accepted that some CDs will have limited lifespan. I'll have around 3000 and apart from CDRs only one (Madame Butterfly on Deutsche Grammaphon) has actually failed so far through deterioration. A few others have suffered from trauma.

am i too late to make a riff about scottish summers, much less winters, potentially being the cause of the trauma...?

  4. For me the new Dolphy was most thrilling of all. If I could keep only one of these five discs...

Me too. I'm not so focused on sound-quality issues, but this new issue was a big improvement. And the bonus material was an amazing surprise, and well worth the upgrade (for the new material alone).

what were your prior pressings of it (i.e., what are you comparing it to)....?

  5. oh yeah, foosball is no fun.

there's more than a trace of this that also applies to the major, shall we say, consolidation of newspapers and magazines that result in a loss of revenue that in turn has a real effect in the depth of coverage as well as serious investigative journalism. but maybe that's a different beast altogether that i shouldn't mention here, but the relative effects are somewhat correlative, right...?

  6. true, but i think he's speaking for a pretty large piece of the pie graph. i'm constantly hearing people i know and overhear talking about getting, listening to, and consuming their music from you tube. obviously, from where i sit, i think that's pretty sad, but then i wonder, divorced from the royalities equation, how different is it from my grade school self listening to a radio? i've not arrived at a very conclusive answer yet, but i still think foosball is the devil. and in this case, you tube represents foosball.

  7. ah - you got me! i don't have the shm so can't speak to any comments from cuscuna. i have the blue note works issue of 'back' and three issues of 'bag'. and while researching the bonus tracks i did think the selection of these two curious, however, could it be that they've being saved to tack on a mclean reissue as a bonus....?

  8. this session is so fine i'm literally embarrassed of my prior apathy towards it.

one question; is the version of "count every star" omitted here that's on the north american issue an alternate of that on quebec's "blue and sentimental"....? i -could- reach for the discography, but that would defeat the purpose of continuing the thread.

thanks to all who encouraged this date.
