    The Arrangers

They are all on my list (see post #45). Al Cohn was a very busy arranger in the 50's, contributing great charts to the book of Terry Gibbs' Dream Band and the Birdland Dream Band of Maynard Ferguson, the same is true for Manny Albam. Ernie Wilkins wrote memorable charts for Count Basie, Harry James and Clark Terry as well as for his own orchestras and the Almost Big Band. They certainly should have been on my list!
  7. Buck Clayton Clayton Hamilton Hamilton Academicals
  8. Emile Zola Gustave Flaubert Honore de Balzac
  9. "Azul Serape" - Victor Feldman's finest moment
  10. This afternoon at the Wigan Jazz Festival I saw veteran British tenorman and clarinettist Vic Ash with a quintet which included ex-Ronnie Scott pianist John Critchinson and former Oscar Peterson drummer Martin Drew. In the audience was an admiring Simon Spillett, a good forty years Vic's junior, who was persuaded to sit in for three numbers in the second set. So we had two generations of British tenor playing, Vic drawing directly on Bird and Pres and Simon on the same two, but mediated through the influence of Tubby Hayes. A great session!
  11. Drummond Bass Alfie Bass David Kossoff
  12. Totally agree ! Very fine 2LP set, will dig it out. This is one I don't have. I ordered it from Newbury, through amazon--it's only $6.99. What is the title in reference to? Something Brazilian--Bossa? Blakey's nickname was Buhania, which is close--he's not on this album, though, is he? I guess it refers to the music of the Brazilian state of Bahia.
