  1. I've never been to Coventry so I can't claim to have been at that performance, though I did see the Ellington band in Leicester, Leeds and Manchester in that era.
  2. Track 7: Cuber? Track 9: Griffin? Track 11: Tyner?? Track 16: Desmond/Bickert?
  3. Listening to two very different contemporary celebrations of music of that era. Love 'em both! Even the orch with strings on the Gibbs date!
  4. I remember the album but sadly never owned it.
  5. You're down there with Slow Drag Pavageau!
  6. Probably is treacherous, but is wonderful music and is available to ME!!
  7. Late to the party with that one, Sidewinder. I made that quip on 4th August. Running on 33 rpm?
  8. Reminds me of a radio interview I heard with Peter Ind (Lennie's mainstay bassist in the 50s). Peter described Lennie's chordal approach at the opening to his solo on "All the Things You Are" from the Confucius Restaurant album as "outta left field".
  9. Early Eric and v nice too! More accurately should have been called Harold Mabern Quartet featuring Eric Alexander as Harold is fantastic here 27 years ago. I guess that, understandably, some of the intensity had gone in his final years.
  10. That one I don't know, but this was the first I bought:
  11. Yes, I bought it too. V elaborate packaging!
  12. Bought it at much the same time as this, which is also excellent.
