Unfortunately no. I believe it was at the Manchester Sports Guild where I went in 1969 to see Maynard Ferguson leading a British band. But I did see members of Lockjaw's accompanying band at other venues: Pat Smythe (Joe Harriott's regular pianist) and Harold McNair. Most importantly though, I did see Lockjaw in Manchester: twice in the Basie band in 1958 and 1965.

I met Ronnie only once - in the mid-1960s when he brought a quintet starring Freddie Hubbard to Leeds University. Together with Ed Dipple who organised the gig, I chatted with Ronnie whose remarks I won't repeat, other than to say they were equally humorous and scatological. 😃
