So sorry to have missed that gig. They were at the Free Trade Hall when I was a student in Manchester. However, it was during the university vacation and I was at home with my parents in Leeds. My Manchester student friend, the late Jack Massarik, managed to make the gig.

Saw Bob Cranshaw (on double bass, of course) in Leeds in the mid-60s with the Junior Mance Trio. They were in a package show with George Shearing's outfit, which had Red Mitchell on bass. Great evening for bassists!

I dig it! Just found it on Spotify and was won over from the first track. Gigi Gryce's "Wildwood" sounds great in this format!

The Gene Krupa Orchestra playing Gerry Mulligan's "Disc Jockey Jump" as featured in jeffcrom's current Blindfold Test.

Continuing with the Edna O'Brien trilogy. I can see why The Country Girls made her name. Powerful and compelling. Seemed ready-made for film treatment and I see there was a TV movie version in 1984 in which the author wrote the screenplay.
