  1. Anyone have the Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions (#170) discography? The link on page 1 is a goner...
  2. No takers? Off to auctionland! Thanks!
  3. "Accent on Tenor Sax" - Lucky Thompson and A Famous Jazz Party 1958 (Shavers/Hawkins) FYI, Jazzloft.com is having a sale, all import CDs are 50% off! (this includes lonehill, gambit, jazz factory, etc.)
  4. I thought it was very much in the "chamber jazz" vein. Not my cup of tea, I guess. Maybe it's an acquired taste? OR maybe I have no taste?!?
  5. Replied! Sold pending payment. Wow! That was fast.
  6. There is some wonderful music on these CDs and I plan on trying to obtain more but some of the sets can be very expensive on the used market.
  7. Hi All! I held out for Mosaic to release the Complete Keynote Sessions but it doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon. So, recently I started picking up the CD series secondhand. I currently own, "The Keynoters" (Nat King Cole), "The Ellingtonians", "Lester Young", "Benny Carter" and the "Coleman Hawkins" set. Last week I ordered the Eldridge and "Swing Trumpets" set and I am waiting for it to arrive. It is a shame that these recordings have been neglected for re-issue, there are some real gems here. Do you have any favorites? Sessions or performances?
  8. Yes! This Mosaic is one of my favs. The Ruby Braff/Pee Wee Russell session in particular is a killer. I had already owned the Columbia release of "Ben & Sweets" but it sounds much better on the Mosaic set. Gotta love the Buck Clayton stuff, too!
  9. To quote Lloyd Bridges in the film "Airplane!", "Looks like I picked a bad week to quit sniffing glue!"
  10. I agree completely. In fact, I came to this conclusion while on a fullblown Gonsalves kick over the weekend. I played "Gettin' Together", "Daylight Express", and "Ellingtonia Moods & Blues" consecutively on Sunday and loved every minute of it. "Gettin' Together" is a minor masterpiece in my book. It's a shame there aren't more people hip to him.
  11. Thanks for the welcome, guys. I have been lurking for awhile and I post and read at AAJ, too.
  12. FIRST POST! I ordered The Hampton set on November 28 and mine came yesterday, too. FYI, I have set #480. I had picked up a few used RCA comps of this material before hearing about the Mosaic and I have to say that they did a wonderful job with the audio and presentation on these songs. The music itself is fantastic and timeless and it's hard to fathom that the first sessions in this set are 70 years old! It sounds great. I was also glad that the very few alt. takes were all placed at the end of the discs. There is a lot of music here for the price. I would totally reccommend this set if anyone's on the fence, it's definitely worth the money and I forsee this set becoming a favorite of mine. I almost view it as the holy grail of small group swing and it really should be required listening for anyone interested in the genre. The only con for me was a few of the tracks on disc 5 with vocals. I like Hamp's vocals but not the others so much (one exception is "I'd Be Lost Without You", great tune!).
