So is the material on those two Columbia Jazz Masterpieces Ellington Small Group CDs drawn from the same material as on the Ellington Small Groups Mosaic?
-
With a "late June/early July" release date, I'm going to go ahead and say mid July at the earliest ...
-
Where does a scratched up copy of A New Perspective rate, that's the only original BN vinyl I've got ...

Like someone suggested earlier, maybe try Cross-Country Tour on for size. If you like it, or if you get the box, do not forget to also pick up The Legendary OKEH/Epic Recordings, some of Jamal's drummerless sides. They are truly exceptional.
(and indeed, the Epic disc is a good primer, too, just not quite the same as what's on the Mosaic)

Though I enjoy him greatly, the amount of Coltrane I own rather outpaces my enthusiasm for him. Save a few late Impulse! dates, I have his entire recorded (or, more accurately, offically released) works as a leader, but wouldn't rank him at the top of my list of favorites and only listen to his records every so often. Perhaps the large amount of them I have has something to do with this, though.

PM on
Al Cohn Zoot Sims Quintet -- You 'N Me (verve) $4
Zoot Sims -- Down Home (bethlehem) $4
Dave Douglas -- The Tiny Bell Trio (songlines) $4
Lester Young -- The Essential Keynote Collection 1 (jazz heritage) $4

FYI Introducing Kenny Burrell can be had at an impressive price on Amazon and Ebay-- about $7.50 sealed, not bad for a 2xCD Connoisseur.
The listing on Amazon must be messed up. The listing indicates it's a single disc with only 4 songs listed.
Can't say I know what this would be, so I assume I'm getting what I think I am. We'll see!

Anyone on the fence about Jackie's Bag or the Ammons/Lewis...GET OFF THE DAMN FENCE.
You know who you are.
Yes, Yes. If someone asked me to make a list of THE 5 essential hard bop albums, Jackie's Bag would be on it.

I'm gonna have to fire up the credit card for the Andrew Hill, Horace Silver, Chet Baker and Kenny Burrell titles.
-
And, as bears mentioning with all things True Blue, I'm sure all of these are still available on Amazon at a fraction of the price and will be for a time (or at least from second-hand vendors).
-
Looks like they're cutting their catalogue to the bone, core titles only (Somethin' Else, Genius of Modern Music, Midnight Blue, The Sermon, Maiden Voyage, et al). Truly the end.

Christ, what's even left?
-
Seconded. I've ordered Selects from Deep Discount and they arrived pristinely.

Well, inspired by this thread, I nabbed the following from Amazon: Popular Recordings 1938-1942 (3xCD), Secret Broadcasts (3xCD), Lost Recordings (2xCD) and The Best of the Army Air Force Band. Subtotal: $5.03 + shipping.

...but this money is burning a hole in my pocket!
Hopefully they'll take this opportunity to also fix the jpegs for the news sets.
-
It'd also be wonderful if they could license and release the Don Pullen/Milford Graves stuff.
-
I'm intrigued. Not too familiar w/ Hemingway's work outside the AB Quartet, so I have just ordered Demon Chaser, Double Blues Crossing and Waltzes, Two Steps & Other Matters of the Heart.
-
Agreed in full. The music matters most.

Could never get into this one. I'm not terribly interested by Dorham to begin with and the Afro-Cuban setting does nothing for me. Good Blakey, though.
-
Gripes aside, at least ESP is still in the reissue game, which is something that can't be said for just about any other notable jazz label of the 50s or 60s. Is there even another?
-
It'd be nice to see the Ran Blake make an appearance.

Hoffman forum thread about the upcoming sets (with several participants from this forum
)
Lots of gnashing of teeth about the price of the trumpet case over there. I figured a lot of the regulars there would be pre-ordering..
I must say, I knew it'd be pricey, but my jaw dropped.

Michael Gregory Jackson - Clarity w/ Leo Smith, Oliver Lake, David Murray (1976)
Never heard of this one, but it sounds promising. Any opinions?
Kind of a Deep Discount sale
