This has likely been posted before, but if anyone's interested, the Original Album Classics set containing all of Sonny's RCA output is available for 10 bucks new on Amazon.
I actually didn't know this existed and just picked one up at the record store-- I thought I was getting a deal at $35, but oh well.

There are also Monk and Miles versions, but those are far more haphazard.

All 6 lp's included on the set (with bonus cuts) are available as RVG's.
Yeah, I was fairly sure this was the case (Indeed!, Vol. 2, Vol. 3, City Lights, The Cooker, Candy), but wasn't certain if anything else was included, like perhaps the session with Cliff Jordan or something.

He says in the introduction that she cooperated, but withdrew her support after reading it, though not her contributions. She decided that it was "mean" to John. I'm torn on this; it's no secret that John was a complicated guy who could definitely be cruel and made dubious decisions regarding his treatment of the women in his life, but like I said above, I think Norman is more tawdry than he needs to be with regards to the latter and is liberal in his psychoanalysis of the former.

Thanks, that's invaluable!

Could anyone post the discography for the Mosaic Lee Morgan Fifties Sessions set? I'd like to construct it as best I can with individual issues.
-
I liked the Norman alright, but he's a tad opinionated and a bit tawdry.
-
I'm astonished no one mentioned this:
-
Spring and Green Street were both in print up to the time of the reissues. I bought McMaster editions for 11.99 apiece a couple months before the announcement for the RVG editions.

PM sent on Leo Parker

I wish I knew why they add the ECM CDs they add. Very few make it in, and I'm hoping the recent Miroslav Vituous and Steve Kuhn discs will be there.
-
On the opposite end: just scored the Don Cherry Mosaic for $40!!!
-
Mine was in perfect condition.
Listened to disc 1, it's perfect.
-
Ordered the Ellington, thanks for the heads up.
-
Go for it, it's good. I think there should be a Tyner Impulse! Mosaic with all of his dates for the label-- high rate of unavailability on those ones. They could even throw in Jimmy Garrison's Illumination.

Got my Cohn/Green/Newman set in the mail today, can't wait to give it a spin.
-
PM sent on Roland Kirk.

Wow, I'm surprised by the dislike for PC in here-- I love his arco playing. A couple of my favorites from him are "Billy Boy" from Milestones and "Dear Old Stockholm" from Bass On Top. Exhilirating playing to my ears.
I also enjoy Henry Grimes' bow work-- he did arco some solos with Sonny Rollins and Roy Haynes that are great.
And while there are no solos the arco work on Andrew Hill's "Wailing Wall" on Smokestack by Richard Davis and/or(?) Eddie Kahn is exquisite.

Meaning you could grab the Charlie Parker Verve Master Takes box, which was just recently added, for under $18
-
Oh.
I'm borderline relieved. I was so tempted to grab the Hill, Tolliver, Tyner, and Blues piano sets, but I don't have the funds right now.
Might get the Green/Cohn/Newman, though.
-
I really love the Savoy recordings, they're worth seeking out: the vocals are quite charming & "Who's Blues" in particular is first-rate. I have them on that great LP with Monk's quartet session with Gryce on the flip.
Is this Signals?
-
Yes, I got that vibe. A shame.
-
This was the best part about the site, why would you get rid of it?
-
Um, I see Tony Williams, Andrew Hill solo, Charles Tolliver, McCoy Tyner, and the Blues & Boogie-Woogie Piano sets all in stock.

There is a box sitting at my local store. It kills me to look at it.
Absurd Sonny Rollins RCA-Victor deal

I should say all of his RCA albums-- the extra material found on the 6xCD Complete RCA-Victor recordings set is obviously lacking.
