  2. That's a terrific CD - some of the stuff on it is eye-opening, especially where one can hear regional characteristics. I knew the Lamar/Britt sides but heard the Phil Baxter recordings for the first time. His rhythm section is fascinating in its feel. Not quite jazz, not quite Western Swing.

  9. I think Bob Crosby's recordings are some of the most rewarding to listen to from the whole of the swing era. The orchestra both from the point of view of the superlative soloists. Eddie Miller, Irving Fazola, Matty Matlock, Billy Butterfield, Yank Lawson, Muggsy Spanier, Jess Stacy, Bob Zurke - Ray Bauduc's drumming and a book that was much more than just big-band dixieland. My favorite track by the band would be 'Woman on My Weary Mind' and as far as the Bobcats are concerned I wouldn't want to be without 'Mournin' Blues', 'Hindustan' and 'Spain'
  10. Love his work on the Condon jam sessions. Bill's solo on 'Fidgety Feet' on the 'Jammin' at Condon's album is one of the most perfect in jazz. The timing, the sound, the rhythmic drive....!!!!!!!!
