  1. Why are the Red Sox wearing yellow? Explaining Boston's MLB City Connect uniforms for 2023

The Red Sox's City Connect jerseys pay tribute to the Boston Marathon, the city's most recognizable annual event. The famous Patriots' Day road race utilizes yellow and blue as its main colors.

Although I'm not partial to the yellow and blue, the Sox are 19-4 overall when they're wearing them. And you know how superstitious baseball players can be.

    AFAICS, this isn't persistence, it's insistence. There's a difference.

Bresna seemingly has put more effort into trying to resolve this issue than anyone here. That's Kevin, helpful to a fault. To be clear, my comment was not directed toward him.

What specifically has Charles Gayle said in performance or out that is being characterized as "homophobia" and which "should not have been tolerated "?

A simple Google search will provide you with examples.

  4. Not a valid defense, but technically-speaking the headline is "accurate". At the time of the Chernobyl disaster, Ukraine was the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, one of the republics that was governed by the Soviet Union. Ukraine regained its independence in 1991. Of course, all of this misses the point of the article. The impact of this possible war crime will be felt for generations.

...But what I find weird is seeing someone walking down the street smoking a spliff, which doesn't seem right since anyone walking around sipping an open beer is likely to get some grief from the boys in blue...

The idea that legalization permits public use is incorrect. In Massachusetts, consuming even legally purchased cannabis in a public place is illegal. This includes smoking, vaping, and cannabis-infused foods. A quick search shows other "legalized" states have similar restrictions.

Will you get used to it when heroin is legalized in the state if Maine? That day may come eventually.

Maybe a bit dated, but here's some mild fun from the pages of ESTRAD (1940 and early 1941):

My mom would refer to one of my girlfriends as "that flat foot floozie with the floy floy". "Floozie" was too racy, so "floogie" was substituted. Strange, because back then most people knew that the "floy floy" was slang for venereal disease. Gotta love Slim & Slam!

These marijuana joints are springing like mushrooms.

I'm not a Bostonian, and don't have the nose for that city's fragrance, but New York City doesn't have the smells it had. The NY air now smells like weed when you're walking down the street, and nothing but weed. When I lived there, it had its own smell: yes, there was a little weed in it, customarily below the Union Square, but it was also street coffee, danish, yesterday's trash, hangover, geraniums, expensive perfume. Now it's just weed.

Driving to work at 7am here in Rhode Island...trail of weed on the highway enters the car and stays. Who smokes grass at 7am? Obviously it's someone driving to work. I'm sure it's a medical necessity, like an emotional support rabbit, or two-three antidepressant prescriptions that are almost a routine for twenty year olds.
