  1. Coincidentally, after posting here I went and bought some music at iTunes. A record I picked up was master percussionist Little (pequeno) Johnny Rivero's new record; Music In Me. As always, when I listen I look up the info about the recording online and lo and behold, the Curtis Bros. are playing bass & piano! The record's a smoka!
  2. Been away for quite some time. What a pleasant surprise to see a thread about one of my musical heroes! Jerry expatriated to Spain many years ago and this recording is the latest in a series of fantastic recordings he's done while living there. JG & Miguel Blanco Big Band - A Tribute To The Fort Apache Band. A quick heads up to any Latin Jazz aficionado, the heir apparent to the 'amazing Latin Jazz playing brothers" label, previously held by Jerry and his brother Andy, would be the incredible Curtis Brothers; Luques (bass) & Zaccai (piano). Besides playing as sidemen to too many modern day Jazz artists to list (chk out Wiki!), their 1st 2 records will appeal to anyone that enjoys Fort Apache: Insight - A Genesis, & the Curtis Bros Quartet - Blood, Spirit, Land, Water, Freedom. Truly fantastic musicians and music!
  3. Just force of habit! Before I got my 1st Phillips CD Recorder (long time ago!) I used to record cassettes like crazy. I enjoy recording in real time and listening to the big rig while I'm doing it!
  4. I've owned my 900SL for a few years now and it's a tank! Like others it's part of my main rig which allows me to record from my LP's. I've also got an iDock to DAC thru which I record MP3's to CDR's (I insist on having hard copies of any MP3's I buy). I've made CD mixes from LP/CD/MP3 and the sound quality's consistently excellent. If your source is good the 900SL always delivers!
  5. Latin Jazz & Salsa have been my favorite genres for decades. I own so many recordings featuring the great Eddie 'Gua Gua' Rivera. Descansa En Paz Maestro.
  6. This is a favorite of mine! Own it on LP & CD. Here's a bit of trivia. Around the time of it's release, Columbia released 2 volumes of live music featuring much of its roster called Montreux Summit. These double LP sets were primarily Fusion-ish BUT they also featured a few cuts of Dexter and the Sophisticated Giant band playing tunes from the record! I'm pretty sure these records were never released on CD making these some pretty rare Dexter Gordon cuts!
