By Yossi Melman and ReutersTags: Iran threat Iran nuclear An explosion rocked the western Iranian city of Isfahan on Monday, the semi-official Fars news agency reported, adding that the blast was heard in several parts of the city. According to reports, frightened residents called the fire department after the blast, forcing the city authorities to admit there had been an explosion. Original report of blast in Iranian city of Isfahan as appeared on Fars website, Nov. 28, 2011. Do you think Israel is behind recent 'mysterious' explosions in Iran? Join the discussion on our Facebook page Speaking with Fars news agency, Isfahan’s deputy mayor confirmed the reports and said the authorities are investigating the matter. However, after the incident was reported in Israel, the report was taken off the Fars website. It seems that city authorities and the Iranian government were embarrassed by the reports of a blasts, releasing contradictory versions of the alleged events. One example is a statement given by the same deputy mayor to the Mehr news agency, saying he had no reports of an explosion. In a photo from 2009, Iranian technicians work at a facility producing uranium fuel for a planned heavy-water nuclear reactor, just outside the city of Isfahan. Photo by: APAnother confirmation came from the head of the city's judiciary, who said an explosion-like sound was heard. Meanwhile, the Mehr news agency reported there has been a blast at a petrol station near the city. Another report pointed to a training accident. The reported incident occurred about two weeks after Gen. Hasan Tehrani Moghaddam was killed together with 20 other Guard members Nov. 12 at a military site outside Bidganeh village, 40 kilometers southwest of Tehran. The Revolutionary Guard said the accidental explosion occurred while military personnel were transporting munitions. It should be noted that Iran operates a uranium conversion plant near Isfahan, one with an important function in the chain of Iran's nuclear program. It first went into operation in 2004, taking uranium from mines and producing uranium fluoride gas, which then feeds the centrifuges that enrich the uranium. Since 2004, thousands of kilograms of uranium flouride gas were stockpiled at Isfahan and subsequently sent to the enrichment plant in Natanz. North Korea supplying Syria, Iran with prohibited nuclear technology, report says IDF official: Iran explosion may delay Tehran's missile development track Iran insists Israel not behind blast that killed missile expert Earlier Monday, a top Israeli security official said that the recent explosion that rocked an Iranian missile base near Tehran could delay or stop further Iranian surface-to-surface missile development. The official added, however that the Iranian nuclear program was continuing to gain ground, despite considerable international pressure and attempts to destabilize the Iranian regime.

  4. I was also in Catholic grammar school(2nd grade). The nuns stopped classes and we prayed. Never saw them so sad. Not only was he the first Catholic president, but my neighborhood was also largely Irish-Italian, so a president of Irish heritage was particularly special. second graders rarely know such grief. they, right or wrong, if possible, are shielded. thx for sharing.
  5. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-15871058?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter US country duo Sugarland have been named in legal action launched by those involved in a fatal stage collapse at Indiana's State Fair in August. Families of four people killed and 44 survivors are suing the band, stage riggers and show producers, citing lack of reasonable care in its organisation. Sugarland had not taken to the stage when the tragedy occured. Seven people died when a freak gust of wind caused the structure to collapse onto fans during the event. Mario Massillamany, representing of a number of law firms who filed the claim at an Indianapolis court, said Sugarland had the final say on whether their performance would be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. They also contend that the band were ultimately responsible for lighting and other equipment at the scene. "This tragedy could have been prevented if the responsible parties had been concerned about the concert-goers that night," he said. The undisclosed claim for damages will help to cover medical bills and other expenses, it was added. Relief fund Sugarland's publicist has said no comment will be made about the legal action. They have been named in two other separate claims by victims of the stage collapse. In October, Sugarland played a free concert in Indianapolis, a short distance away from the site of the tragedy. They asked the audience to donate to a relief fund for the victims, which has already distributed thousands of dollars in assistance.

  7. From Bill Frisell: "No words for what I am feeling now. Music is good. Paul Motian was a MUSICIAN. He taught me, brought me up. Pointed the way. Showed me things I never could have imagined. Led me to places of extraordinary beauty. Indescribable. Paul never let up for one second. Raising it up. Always. No compromise. Listen to the MUSIC." Bill Frisell

Advertisement: A Pinal County spokeswoman says 911 calls began coming in around 6:30 p.m. Friday about an explosion near the Lost Dutchman Mine Park in the Apache Junction area. Sheriff’s officials confirmed that some type of plane had crashed, and rescue crews were on their way to the crash site in rugged terrain near the peak of a mountain. Video on Phoenix-area television stations shows several fires burning on the mountainside. An FAA spokesman says there are no immediate reports of any missing commercial aircraft.

  16. this week, november 22, marks the 48th anniversary of the assassination of president kennedy. it's often said that everyone who was alive then can remember where they were and what they were doing when they got the news that JFK had been shot. i first heard the news on that sunny shirt sleeve warm thursday november 22, listening about 130pm to weol-fm, preparing to go to work at the supermarket. each news bulletin from cbs news dallas grew significantly more grim until walter cronkite announced the death of john fitzgerald kennedy, 35th president of the united states. i had grown to marvel at president kennedy's remarkable wit, knowledge, perspective, and hair raising oratory. i especially loved the repartee of his press conferences. the talk at the market that evening, was of philosophies forever changed, a realization that there is no real security in this world, and that dreams can die, too. we knew that this world, country, and i had sufered wounds to our souls that would never heal. we have not seen his equal, his human faults nothwithstanding. this man, in his press conferences, was knowledgeable, informed, and informed. no one since has come even close to having a kennedyesque press conference. if you were alive then, what was your reaction, and how did it change you? high hopes

  18. meyer article Posted by Brooks on Nov. 22, 2011, 2:11pm Last Friday I reported that Urban Meyer had agreed in principle to become the next head football coach of Ohio State. Multiple sources confirmed today that Meyer has reiterated his intention to take the job during recent phone calls to multiple, prominent former Ohio State football players. Sources said Meyer contacted the ex-Buckeyes to ask for guidance on possible assistant coach hires and - just as important - their public support when Meyer’s hire is announced next week by Ohio State. Sources close to Ohio State said today that an announcement on Meyer’s hire by the school will come next Monday or Tuesday though nothing has been signed between the two parties at this time.
