  1. for christ sake, don't tell her you are a jazz fan.
  2. Yeah, I am too. All things considered, one of the better deals out there, I also laugh at those who bitch & moan about hos slow the lines are at the post offices. If I had a dollar for every time I listened to somebody in line bitch and moan about how slow the lines were, only to finally approach the counter and then unpack unaddressed letters, unpacked packages, unseals bulk envelopes, etc. and then ask the clerks "how do I DO this", only to have the clerks graciously go ahead and do it for them while some other maroons in the line with simularly unprepped items in tow were simularly bitching and moaning about how slow the lines were, if I had a dollar for every time I saw and heard that, hell, I could probably buy the freakin' Post Office, ya' know? I'm sure we all got some isolated horror stories, but all things considered, make mine USPS. amen, and amen, brother jim.

  4. how about those creeps(like you and me) who insisted on playing free jazz, or any jazz, or any music requiring living brain cells at the office?
  5. http://www.theatlanticwire.com/national/2011/08/five-best-monday-columns/41266/ The Chicago Tribune on Irritating Office Workers "Office politics can be deadly. Now there are numbers to prove it," declares the Chicago Tribune editorial board. The board points to a Tel Aviv University study that tracked 820 people for 20 years and found that those with lower peer support on the job were more likely to die. "Surprisingly, having a jerk for a boss doesn't seem to have an effect on longevity. It's the clown who wants to be your boss that you need to watch out for," they write. "Countless studies have shown that a toxic work environment zaps productivity, drives away talent, increases turnover and absenteeism, inhibits creativity and problem-solving, and destroys team cohesion." The board points to self-help books and seminars that help workers rant about their annoying co-workers and potentially find solutions. "Alternately, you could visit annoyingcoworker.com and let 'er rip in an anonymous email, or even send one of the pre-written screeds helpfully provided on the site, though this wouldn't be a particularly collegial gesture on your part. Remember, co-workers can kill. It's safer for everyone if we all play nice."

  10. amen, brother jv. cbs radio does sports really well. my bet is that soon cbs sports radio will move up the fm dial to the more powerful 98.5.
  11. aint nuttin' but air ....no sound is quite so majestic and piercing as distant airchimes on a faraway locomotive, or a reasonable facsimile thereof, in the quiet damp cool early am air. it's even more better than a choir of bass trombones or a bruckner symphony. kenton could have used a few. http://www.mansfield...mod|blogs||news nathan airhorns http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Excxz76TR_U
  12. I remember John Sterling doing braves games...don't recall Dale Murphy , or Bob Horner getting text messages, or being called Grandymen, Swishalisious, etc, etc... It was also Skip Carey's birthday yesterday! Bill Tush did have some odd humor, didn't he??? Ok by me... my memories of sterling's atlanta sportscasting stint were that he was the dullest, most bland major broadcaster ever. i think john has slightly overcompensated. john sterling homerun call.
  13. one can but imagine the crimes against the weak and innocent when the bright lights of public scrutiny were certain never to shine on this sort of thing.
  14. great great news for the beleagered cleveland area sports talk radio fan!!!!! veteran national favorites adam the bull(recent of wfan-ny) , kevin kiley, and chuck booms, will do local broadcasts for a cbs-cleveland .sportstalker. cbs radio stations invariably end up flagships for major league sports tems in their area. WKRK-FM will be no exception. http://www.crainscle...FREE/110809897# CBS Radio to enter Cleveland market with 'The Fan' on WKRK-FM, 92.3 By JOEL HAMMOND 11:12 am, August 4, 2011 The long-rumored entry of another sports-talk radio station into Cleveland's media market is official. "What we are launching is literally a radio station for 'The Fan,'" Mr. Roth said in the release. "For Clevelanders who live and breathe sports 24/7, this will be the place to get the best insight, most in-depth coverage and a well-rounded balance of listener participation, all presented in an entertaining forum."CBS Radio announced in a news release that 92.3 The Fan, on 92.3 WKRK-FM, will launch Aug. 29. Andy Roth, a veteran of sports radio in New York City, Philadelphia and Buffalo, was named the station's program director. The station will compete with Cleveland's other all-sports station, ESPN 850, WKNR-AM. In an instant coup, 92.3 will be home to Westwood One's coverage of the NFL, formerly played on WKNR. Kevin Kiley and Cleveland native Chuck Booms will occupy 92.3's morning-drive slot, competing against ESPN's "Mike and Mike in the Morning." In the afternoon, Adam "The Bull," formerly of WFAN in New York, will fill the afternoon drive-time slot from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. CBS Radio owns 14 other all-sports stations. They are in New York (WFAN-AM), Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Detroit, Riverside, Calif., Houston, Tampa, Sacramento, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
  15. wtbs- the first superstation. for several years, tbs replayed the braves games in the night owl hours, and i usually watched the games after working second shift. ernie, funny irreverant skip caray, and pete van wieren. i haven't enjoyed baseball as much since. i knew the braves players of the time like members of my family. the crew doubled up on radio(powerhouse wsb) as well. the highly professional ernie and pete played straight men for comedian caray. ironically ernie's death was announced during tonight's braves-cubs game where longtime braves manger bobby cox was honored. for old times sake, the plate umpire 'threw' cox out of the game. uggla extended his hitting streak to 32 with 2 home runs. not to be outdone, cub pitcher carlos zambrano performed his annual locker clean out-i'm retiring tantrum. memories of the hilarious tbs late night 'newscaster'' bill tush return, as well. tush never translated his humor into a wider career, which really surprised me. i remember ernie's dry slightly hoarse measured voice. RIP ernie. you were a class act. unintentionally hilarious longtime yankee radiocaster john sterling was part of that tbs baseball crew for a time. i seem to recall sterling telecasting some atlanta hawks basketball games, as well.

  20. .and the timeless beauty of EACH game could be savored.
  21. yeah, but then it is resolved in blasphemously short series, kind of like quickie sex. to make baseball really cool, there should be no playoffs to speak of between the leagues, and all seeding should be left to endless pointless mindless espn buffoonery and conjecture(kind of like bigtime college footbal and religion)
  22. i think he's up to .221 now. the great beauty of baseball is its incongruity and it's timelessness(no clock).
  23. that's very early 20s??? thx.
  24. i have here a big set of programs that mel made for a new york radio station in the late 80s discussing the history of jazz drumming. mel definitely pulled no punches. i consider very few things sacred. the rusches and cadence are on the very small list. sadly, i have outgrown all my cadence tees, and the crews are now history. gotta pick up some more. they would make part of a classy burial getup.
