throughout my life, i've wanted to program, or even, hear, a truly eclectic stream of music, from ornette to roy acuff, the vilest rap to the most solemn mass, shostakovich string quartets to bluesman fred mcdowell, barogue to hai lai. miss erika sherman of detroit, since 1999 has provided an unending stream of wildly eclectic, intelligent, but not haughty music. the are no commercials to tell us how great she is, no ads, no hustle. how does she do it? i've no idea. there are no playlists and absolutely no corporate hustles imploring mindless millions what to like amd love. i've no idea how many listeners there are, or if there are any but myself. are your ears and mind open enough for erika? erika.net/erika.asx this is a link to her website and a recent playlist. 10:49 Alan Silva And The Celestial Communication Orchestra Seasons Seasons CD 1 10:47 Otis Redding Security Good To Me: Recorded Live At The Whiskey A Go Go Volume 2 10:42 Riss Undertaker 1 Kreisel 99/2 10:39 Emotions First Love Baby The Best Of Flip Vol. 2 10:37 Lee "Scratch" Perry Prophecy - The Ethiopians Born In The Sky 10:28 69 Microluvr In Order To Dance 5 10:25 Peter Broderick Old Time Old Time / Solace In Gala 10:22 DJ Olive Instrumental Spy ?????? ???????? 10:17 Twerk Geeky Minimal Sausage Party Now I'm Rendered Useless 10:14 Eddie Kendricks Tell Her Love Has Felt The Need Motown Memories Vol 2 Where We 10:05 Otha Turner & The Afrossippi.. Johnny Griffin told me he was drafted in 1950 and, along with a group of other Chicago draftees, was shipped off to fight in the Korean War. They were flown to Hawaii. While they were waiting for their flight to Korea, there was a military band event for which an oboe player was suddenly needed. Somehow word got to the band officials that one of the new privates, Griffin, could play oboe and was a good sight reader. (Chicago teacher Walter Dyett had taught Griffin to play several woodwinds.) He not only played in that band concert, he would up playing saxophone in a dance band at an officers' club party that night. A drunken officer heard him and demanded, "This private is such a good musician, he should be a member of the band, not a soldier." As a result Griffin stayed behind while his fellow draftees flew to Korea the next day. Johnny said that every other one of those Chicago men who had been drafted with him was killed in action. That war was utter horror. thank you. -

the big hurt, Why do guys always fall for women like that? I'm sure she was beautiful on the outside but whatever is on the inside uuughhhh? -
music mogul leaves stash to doorman  ""He was a generous guy," says the doorman. "It’s a surprise." Making the heartwarming story decidedly less heartwarming is this colorful quote from Meltzer's ex, who lost out on her share of the estate: "He can leave it to whoever he wants to. I’m doing fine. I could care less," she tells the New York Post. "If he wants to give it to the bums, he can give it to the bums. He could f*** a nun. I couldn’t give a s***. He can give his money to whoever he wants. We’re divorced. The man is dead.""

a left handed piano 'Whichever hand one claps with, Mr Seed's invention deserves enthusiastic applause.' THE LONDON TIMES 11 March 1997 'A left-handed piano would allow southpaws to lead with their strength...it's an attractive prospect.' THE NEW YORK TIMES 13 July 1997 'If a left-handed piano can elicit music-making like this, let's have more of them.' EARLY MUSIC NEWS 20 June 2002

I believe his name is Cliff PREISS, otherwise known as Phil Schaap's mini-me. He was the jazz buyer at the Virgin Mega-Store in Times Square, and has written his share of liner notes for Verve cd reissues. thank you, sir. among all the kcr hosts, cliff is my favorite, and can usually be counted on for some lovely keyboard selections for his sometimes friday night shows. cliff has little in common with phil, that i discern. Different in some ways, not so much in others. Cliff is introverted to the point of it being painful to witness -- Phil is extroverted (also to the point of it being painful to witness, though). But they are both pasty white guys who are the living epitome of jazz nerdiness. i suspected cliff's introversion. every word he speaks is planned and measured. there seems nothing spontaneous. aren't all of us weird jazz geeks?

I wanted to write more, but was in the library on their PC and the hourglass ran out. But it wasn't for nothing that Shakespeare wrote that brevity is the soul of wit. Or maybe I read it on a can of roach spray (OK, I stole that from the once-popular comic London Lee) may we, then, call you 'quicky'?
