  1. When's the new CD due out ? Chicken or Beef?'s officail release date is June 3rd. But there's a small chance we may have some copies to sell on the road. We're waiting on the letter press man - we have discs, but no covers. He's cranking them out over the weekend and then (if all goes perfectly) he'll be mailing them to us in Chicago. Keep your fingers crossed on that. If it doesn't work out, we just got the second printing of Do This! made, so we won't be empty handed. We're having our Seattle CD Release Party on May 18th at The Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park. It starts at 2pm, is free and all ages. There will also be a pre-concert discussion before the show at 1:30.
  2. I believe we are headlining but I'm not 100% sure. I'll find out and post before we take off on tuesday. By the way, on our myspace page we have posted some samples of the new record. We recorded the engineer while she was flipping from track to track in the studio comparing levels and such. It's like an overview of Chicken or Beef in abruptly mangled 5 second snippets. It's called "STAY TUNED chicken or beef", check it out.
  3. Are you sure about that? Then y'all should come to Seattle to confer... Man, I just read about Chewy's accident. Sorry Aric, I would have never made that kind of joke if I had known. Get well soon.
  4. Thanks guys. I totally missed this a couple weeks ago. I love this board. I hope to see some of you on our tour. we leave in a week. -john
  5. Are you guys ready for some Reptet? I DON'T THINK YOU CAN HANDLE REPTET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You might feel a lot safer if you just went home and put on a Hank Mobley record. There's a lot of good porn on the inetrnet now-a-days you know. Pop a frozen pizza in the oven, maybe a brew. You are getting sleepy, VERY SLEEPY.
  6. We started to seriously look at coming out to Europe about three months ago, but we were a little late in the game for summer festivals and without a festival comitment we can not apply for a travel grant (which would be essential to doing a euro tour). Also, we do not have any connections on the other side of the pond. We are very eager to tour over there however. If you know of anyone who may be able and interested in helping us, please let me know. We're gonna begin the process of applying to 09' festivals this summer/fall.
  7. I looked into Toronto, but I don't have any serious leads or connections there (unlike Chicago, Philly, Boston etc.) - we'd love to play Toronto though. Maybe once the new CD comes out we can return to the east for a more comprehensive tour. I'm really glad you like the records. I hope you'll feel the same about "Chicken or Beef?"
  8. Sorry Stef, We got a great offer from a school up in Portland Maine, so our tour added some New England gigs instead of coming down to DC and Baltimore. We had earlier plans of doing a double bill with The Tiptons in Baltimore, but it fell through. Philly's not so far though. If not, I'm sure we'll do DC next time around.
  9. We actually share the night with Tim Motzer's FUZZBASE, and I believe we open, so.....
  10. I saw a commercial for some concert in south Florida. Can't even remember who the headliner is but Elvis Costello and The Attractions are opening. News to me. Elvis' current band is called the Imposters (same as the Attractions only minus bassist Bruce Thompson).

The Band "A gorgeous mix of beauty and brains” – Kenny Weir / The Melbourne Herald Sun, Australia Reptet (Monktail Records) will be touring the east coast this spring to promote their critically acclaimed and historically galvanized CD, Do This! Their seven-state, ten-city tour this April includes return visits to Chicago, New York and Philadelphia, with debut performances in Boston, Portland, Traverse City, Kalamazoo and Trenton. Reptet is an original music, four horn, bass & drums sextet consisting of six multi-instrumentalists who are members of the internationally acclaimed Monktail Creative Music Concern based in Seattle, WA. Longtime stalwarts of the Pacific Northwest’s flourishing creative music scene, over the past two years they have established themselves internationally as a dynamic and innovative group with considerable excitement, talent and vision. Flamboyantly debunking preconceived notions of what a jazz group ought to be, Reptet will be releasing their third CD, entitled Chicken or Beef in May of 2008. The Artists Samantha Boshnack (Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Slide Trumpet) grew up in upstate New York. She received her Bachelor of Arts in music from Bard College where she studied jazz trumpet and composition with Erica Lindsay and Thurman Barker. She has also studied with Jerry Sabatini and Baikida Carroll. She moved to Seattle in 2003 and joined the Monktail Collective. Today her career consists of teaching private lessons and gigging around the Northwest. She is also a member of Picoso. Boshnack has received commissioning support from 4Culture and Jack Straw Productions. Chris Credit (Saxophones, Clarinet, Flute) moved from Anchorage Alaska to Seattle to attend Cornish College of the Arts where he received a Bachelor of Music in 1998. There he studied with Julian Priester, Hadley Caliman, Chuck Deardorf, Jim Knapp and met the legendary Izaak Mills. After a short stint traveling around the world performing music on cruise ships, Credit returned to Seattle to focus on new projects and teaching. In addition to Reptet, he is also a member of Motel 5, the Cocktet, and founder of c2 music. Izaak Mills (Saxophones, Flute, Bass Clarinet) grew up in Olympia, WA. In 1998 he made the long trek to Seattle to attend Cornish College where he studied for two years with Hadley Caliman, Jim Knapp, Julian Priester, Denney Goodhew, Jovino Santos Neto, Paul Taub and Dave Peck. He is a regular member of Picoso, the Boogie Brown Band and a founding member of Floss and Bacteria. His favorite food is the carrot. Nelson Bell (Trombone and Tuba) graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in music history and music theory. Although the bass trombone is his main axe, he is also proficient on the tenor trombone, euphonium, tuba, piano, and percussion instruments. He takes great pride in being the finest egg shaker-er in the Northwest region. Nelson has performed with the Jazz Police, Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, Banda Vagos, the Jim Knapp Orchestra, Emerald City Jazz, and the North West Prevailing Winds to name a few. He has also done much studio work, with credits ranging from elevator music to movie soundtracks. Check out Nelson on the Grammy nominated album "Convergence Zone" featuring compositions and arrangements by Phil Kelly. John Ewing (Drums, Percussion) is a native of Philadelphia, PA. He studied jazz and classical percussion at Glassboro State College (now Rowan College) in New Jersey and has studied with Robert Brosh and John Bishop. His current work includes jazz based improvisation and free sound explorations as well as film scores and studio work. He has had the honor of performing with legendary jazz trombonist Julian Priester and saxophonist Bert Wilson. John is also a jazz writer (Earshot Jazz and Signal to Noise among others) and a member of the Jazz Journalist Association. Besides being Reptet's founding member and co-leader, he is an integral member of Monktail Creative Music Concern. Tim Carey (Bass) grew up playing electric bass in beautiful Seabeck, WA. Tim attended Olympic College where he was able to tour the world playing with some of Kitsap County's most notable jazz musicians, including Gary Williams, Ray Ohls, Andy Omdhal, and Nancy King. Tim earned a Bachelor’s of Music from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Washington in May 2006. While at Cornish Tim quickly became one of Seattle’s first call electric bassists as well as an accomplished acoustic bassist and guitarist. Tim is currently teaching bass, guitar, banjo, ukulele, and piano full time as well as performing in and around the Seattle area on a regular basis. Projects include: the Mack Grout Quartet, Owour Arunga and the Young Lions, Banda Aricrin, Jovino Santos-Neto Trio, Reptet, the Jeff Busch Quintet, Pat Wright and the Total Experience Gospel Choir.
  12. Elvis Costello & The Attractions - September 1, 1996 - Mercer Arena Seattle WA It turned out to be their final US show ever - I guess they did a few more shows in Japan after this. They played for 3+ hour with no break, they were sounding tight as a motherfucker and it was incredible!
  13. I was wondering if we could start a thread that simply lists summertime European Jazz Festivals and when they take place. There are so many, it might be good to have one thread that lists them and possible links to them. Thanks Ya'll, -john
  14. OK, so I had a meeting with the Reptet peoples today and we have decided to make our tour in April an expanded US tour and go out to Europe in the summer when more festivals are happening. If any of you can recommend some European festivals (preferably southern Europe and the Netherlands, but any that you know of that you think Reptet would be good for) that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance to all my Org friends.
  15. Hello all, Do any of you know of any European festivals and/or venues that would be conducive to Reptet's brand of jazz music? We are hoping to tour Europe in the summer. We have a good amount of Italian venues and bookers that we've been contacting, but if anyone could help us with other European venues (especially festivals)it would greatly appreciated. If we could get one festival to commit we could apply for a travel grant, which would be sweet. Anyway, thanks in advance, -john
  16. Just wanted to bring this back up since we hit the road on Saturday (that is, unless I-5 between Seattle and Portland is still washed out by then). I hope all my west coast board friends can make it out to the shows. Come say hi. I'll be the sweaty drummer drinking a belgian ale in the corner.
  17. Jim Wilke was there at the Seattle Art Museum and recorded it for broadcast on his "Jazz NW" radio program. It aired yesterday and is now available online here. Check it out. It was fun. And we may be coming to a town near you!
  18. Great show folks! I don't think any board members were there...not even Chewy. BUT....Jim Wilke of NPR's Jazz After Hours was there to record it and he said he will be playing excerpts on his show on 11/18. I'll try to get more details and post them in a bit.
