  1. I appreciate your honest reactions. Others have said that they like the music. To each their own.
  2. Track 7 is not by Abdullah Ibahim. With regard to Track 8, the composer had a certain purpose for the sound effects. I had not heard the piece until after I read the liner notes, so I knew what the purpose was, and my first listen was colored by that. Your comments, and the comments of others, indicate that the composer did not really accomplish his purpose with the sound effects, because no one who has not read the liner notes understands the composer's purpose.
  3. It is very good to see Jack DeJohnette's "Inflation Blues" on CD at last. That is one to join the Old and New Dreams and Dave Holland CDs in the "better than the usual ECM" category.
  4. This is not correct.
  5. That is not correct.
  6. I have the Henderson track on a double CD which I'm sure is now out of print - Ridin' in Rhythm on DRG. If you can find it, it's got some great stuff - Ellington, Benny Carter, Coleman Hawkins, Henderson. You'll have to get up pretty early in the morning to stump me on James Booker. I got the Lost Paramount CD at the Louisiana Music Factory on Decatur St. Thanks for sending me to the head of the class. I enjoyed this BFT - thanks for putting it together. Thanks for the information on a better sounding "Minnie the Moocher's Wedding Day." I am going to try to find "Ridin' In Rhythm." I am glad that you liked this BFT. I had fun putting it together.
  7. That is all correct. You win this:
  8. None of those guesses are correct. Yeah... and see my adds. This has me thinking - for whatever reason - that someone is playing "in the style of," but I can't pin it down. (Nick Brignola was very good at doing brief imitations "in the style of," which is what made me think of that whole idea...) Edited to add: Coolbone! Makes complete sense! Disc 2, tk. 5 - if Don Byron, it might be Uri Caine. maybe from a JMT release? It is Uri Caine on piano on Disc 2, Track 5. Which album and song?
  9. None of those guesses are correct.
  10. No. The first link doesn't work. The second link is not the right answer. That's funny - they've taken the page down. It was there earlier. It's called "Spider on the keyboard" or words to that effect. MG That one is not correct, either. This is probably the CD Issued in UK on Ace. http://www.acerecords.co.uk/content.php?pa...amp;release=897 The blurb on site suggests that this might, indeed, be the Basie band. MG Give yourself a . I pulled that song from the bonus cuts on that particular CD. I *almost* went with Booker, but hey - that only counts in horseshoes, right? it's from this album, which I kept meaning to buy for myself, but never did... or maybe not. I think I spoke too soon!) * Is Disc One, tk. 2, from this album, maybe? No, the Booker cut is not from that album. No, Disc One, Track 2 is not from that album.
  11. No. The first link doesn't work. The second link is not the right answer.
  12. James Booker is the pianist on Disc 2, Song 12. If you have heard Booker before, there are some of his characteristic licks here. But, which Booker album is this from?
  13. 13 is not Rebirth Brass Band. My father heard that Christmas album so often over the years that he would routinely say "presents nice" in an approximation of that woman's voice, whenever we opened our gifts at Christmas. My mother is one of those people who owns a few albums and plays each one thousands of times.
  14. I am thinking of how to respond to that longer post.
  15. No, no and no. Disc 2, Track 12 is not the good Professor. Big Al, don't worry. If it had been up to me, everyone would have been holding tin cans to their ears and trying to listen to the BFT through the string attached to the can. You have gone above and beyond the call of your BFT Leader duties to help me through this one. Eveyone will get the music and get a chance to hear it, soon.
  16. Actually, seeline seems to be Jeff's equal or better this time, at guessing the songs. I have now emailed you the link for the download to the last three tracks, Spon. (I heard that your mother calls you Spon. Hey, when you die, the tribute album can be "And His Mother Called Him Spon.")
  17. Spontooneous, I wanted to send you the last three songs of Disc 2, of my BFT 69, which are available today. I could not send the download to you because your PM box is full. If you will delete a few PMs, I will send the all-important last three songs your way. The last three songs are in fact, quite rousing--I meant to end the BFT with a bang.
  18. I knew I had that one! But that sounds thinner than mine. I'll have to compare the two later. MG Err, not to cross-post from your iPod thread, but it's likely because the disc was burned from MP3s (bitrate 192k). I'm also missing the final tracks from the 2nd disc - don't believe they're in the download, either. (And no worries, guys - stuff happens!) As to your guess on Disc Two, tk. 8 - it *is* a very Machito-ish chart, but I'm not sure I want to commit to saying that it is his band (for certain). Oh come on, don't be afraid of committment!
  19. What, no shoulder held Stinger missile launcher?
  20. MG, You missed the last three cuts on the second disc--which include a real Christmas song. The last three cuts are not to be missed, in my opinion. They bring the second disc to a rousing close.
  21. Happy Birthday 2009, Eric!
