Back in 2007, during my Tete Montoliu research, I found some sources mentioning a jam session that may have taken place in Copenhagen, October 25, 1963, at the Montmartre Jazzhus, with John Coltrane and members of his ensemble joining the Roland Kirk Quartet after Trane's appearance at the Tivolis Koncertsal. Thanks to the research carried out by Jan Søttrup through the archives of Danish newspapers and magazines from that year, I came to know that neither Birger Jorgensen in Politiken, Eric Wiedemann in Information, Torben Ulrich in B.T. nor any other newspaper mentioned anything about a jam session with Roland Kirk and John Coltrane at the Montmartre after Coltrane's concert at the Tivolis. Jan also contacted Anders Stefansen, who booked both the John Coltrane concert and the Roland Kirk performance at the Montmartre, and he rejected this possibility completely, as did John Tchicai of the New York Contemporary Five (and friendly with John Coltrane back then). But since 2007, I have found new references to this possible jam session, to be precise in the Discography and the Chronology of the John Coltrane Reference book by Lewis Porter, Chris DeVito, Yasuhiro Fujioka and Wolf Schmaler (p. 287 & 695). It looks like the primary source is Downbeat ("Copenhagen", Dec. 5, 1963, p. 43), which took the data from the Berlingske Tidende, October 26, 1963, 11 (review "Arets Coltrane: Den traditionnelle koncert i Tivoli med en af jazzens fornyere" by "Nius") and from Mitsuo Johfu. The Coltrane Reference book gives this Kirk-Trane jam session as an irrefutable fact, with no mentions of "reportedly" or "possibly". So I contacted Alex Riel, drummer in the Roland Kirk Quartet, and his reply was: I would appreciate any further information or comments, specially from Danish members who may have been jazz nuts at that time... Thanks in advance and Happy New Year! Agustín Pérez Madrid

Although I have no insider information, we can most surely state with certainty that they're doing it the right way, this is, paying to the rightholders... or have you ever seen an Andorran emporium publicly presenting a new label in a press release? So, let's not bother about minimum details (covers, info from the website!!!) and let's congratulate we're getting more Ellington, more Goodman, more Adderley... live material!
