  1. It's difficult to know which set to buy. I'd like the nicer packaging of the Atlantic/Savoy box. However, I've read a couple of reviews, one being at AMG, that the JSP box is the recommended set to purchase.
  2. I've known of Charlie Parker for years. However, I 'heard' Parker, for the first time, only a few days ago. I've always found myself listening to bop in the post Parker period rather than 'the' Parker period. I'm interesting in purchasing some Charlie Parker material. I'm wondering which box set would be the better way to go. If money isn't an issue, which is the better set of music between these two box sets? Which presents 'the music' in a better way? Which box provides better sound quality, better liner notes and better remastering? JSP box Atlantic box
  3. How do I cope? 1. Talk to friends and family 2. Exercise - I run three times per week, if you can't run then walk 3. Jazz - buy a new jazz album 4. Booze - Beam & Coke has been my favorite of late These 'techniques' let the mind relax. When the mind is relaxed it is, for me, easier to gain perspective and clarity regarding a given situation. In the words of Jesse Jackson, 'keep hope alive.'
  4. Received today...
  5. This is not meant as an argument with Lon. I'm using his words only to present some discussion. 'Tis difficult to know what a person would think of another, till the people meet. One of my best 'real world' friends is the direct opposite of me, politically. He posts his political thoughts on another Board. He was my friend before I read his posts. If I'd read his posts before he was my friend, I'd have vowed to NEVER meet the sonofabitch. It's humorous that he and I are very good friends and go in opposite directions, politically. I have ideas of who I might like to meet from reading posts on this Board. I wonder how accurate my ideas would be if I met said Organissimo posters? Methinks there is a possibility I might dislike those I believe I would like and vice versa.
  6. Hummph... Order Date: 9/21/2004 10:24:34 PM 194-MD-CD Byrd/Adams (4 CDs) $64.00 Cart Total $64.00 SubTotal $64.00 Shipping $8.00 TOTAL $72.00
  7. I really DON'T recommend the Pearson Select (although other opinions on this board may vary). Save your money on Pearson and get something good. If you want a Select and like the organ, get the Patton. I enjoy it often. The 'sleeper' Select, to my ears, is the Bennie Green, which is very nice. The Carmell Select gives you some Carmell and some Gerald Wilson at the same time. Do you have the JJ Johnson Mosaic Complete? Get the JJ before it goes OOP. I'm currently enjoying the hell out of the Stanley Turrentine Mosaic, not a bad track in the set (and not so pricey either). I've read various opinions about the Turrentine Mosaic not having good sound. I like Ron McMaster, sometimes more than Van Gelder, and the Turrentine Mosaic sounds very fine to my ears. If you want something more Ellingtonian, I recommend the Johnny Hodges Complete set. It contains mucho excellent material.
  8. The guy who works on my car, my mechanic... his name is Dave Matthews. Why is that? Where did that name come from?
  9. How many posts will The joy of knowing the Lord thread amass before it reaches its end?
  10. I want the Dexter for sure. It's odd for me that, for the first time ever, with the Don Pullen Select, Mosaic is releasing material that even 'I' already have a copy of. The Don Pullen is 1980s material and I was purchasing jazz in the 80s. There was no way I could have purchased the 50s and 60s material when it was initially released. In the 1980s, however, I was there.
  11. Hank who? Damn. You're right. Williams. I meant, Hank Williams. What the hell is the matter with me?
  12. For me... Hank Mobley.
  13. The Mosaic site is working. I just placed an order for the Byrd/Adams box.
  14. There was beer everywhere.
  15. They got the house on the corner With the rug inside They got the booze they need All that money can buy They got the shapely bods They got the Steely Dan T-shirt And for the coup-de-gras They're outrageous Show biz kids making movies Of themselves you know they Don't give a fuck about anybody else
  16. Sweet Jesus. Oh, my. Sweet Jeesuuuuuuuus! Jesus left Chicago.
  17. How many bubbles are there, exactly, in a can of Pepsi?
  18. And, no. I'm not calling them on the telephone. That's 'old media.'
  19. The Mosaic site is 'up' for as I type these words. I was concerned that, if the site was still down by this evening, Pacific time, I'd not be able to order my Donald Byrd box.
  20. A picture of me during the Memorial Day weekend 2004 (if I remember correctly), with stomach full of food and beer. link
  21. Whew! I have more CDs than a I can organize. More CDs than I've counted in several years. I don't know... errr, between two and four thousand? Gulp.
  22. I'm on my computer very often but I'm not into much of the 'personal' technology. Is a PDA a good way to manage your CD collection?
