  6. Yesterday`s John Coltrane Memorial made me dig out this one .... simply beautiful ....
  7. Probably his monsterhit "When A Man Loves A Woman" - actually one of the weaker songs of his portfolio - was overdone but Percy Sledge was an undisputed master of countryfied Southern Soul and his performances of "It Tears Me Up", "Out Left Field", "Just Out Of Reach", "Take Time To Know Her", "It`s All Wrong But It`s All Right" "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road" and others are part of the pantheon of this genre .....
  8. Although slightly disappointing contentwise yesterday`s commemorative viewing of the Coltrane documentary "Chasing Trane" fuelled my need to hear some more music by the master and this magnificent transitional phase platter is always a pleasure to hear ....
  9. Much beloved Mingus platter ....
  10. Southern Soul ain't get better ....
  11. Outstanding write-up .... !!!

  13. From memory Art Blakey`s Birdland recordings on Blue Note ....
  14. Another session documenting him adequately happened just one month prior to "Introducing ...." aka in March 1957 and resulted in the Clifford Jordan/John Gilmore gem "Blowing In From Chicago" ....
