I dug up this thread because sharing these thoughts on the "Mosaic Is In Trouble" thread isn't relevant beyond that I did my part in funneling needed cash to Stamford. Also waiting for the Savoy set and others. The addiction continues. Anyway ... Still working through Benedetti, but I've found the sound quality not nearly as bad as disc one of the Ember Birdland set. In many cases, it's pretty good considering how it was recorded. Despite owning a hell of a lot of Bird, I held off on Benedetti for a number of years because of the obvious - 7 CDs of only solos, not full tracks. Why did I wait so long??? This is amazing. It's like discovering the rarest diamond every 90 seconds. In many cases all I remember are Bird's solos from full tracks anyway, so why not just cut to the core truth - Bird, straight, no filler. Now I understand why others have said, if you own only Mosaic (fat chance in any case) it should be Benedetti. This is truly astonishing.

Nice. Glad it arrived. I opened it but now need to block out the weekend to focus on it. Booklet is thick!

Not necessarily. I ordered Benedetti and then the next day the Savoy set. Benedetti arrived. Savoy is back ordered.

I never received a tracking number. After I ordered the Benedetti online, I received a notification that the order had been delivered to shipping but due to a back up it could take 5-7 days before shipment. I received the package 4 days later. My hunch is that they are so overwhelmed with orders that the normal process is a bit strained. That said, I'm just happy the lights are staying on a little longer in Stamford.

Genuinely surprised that the Ahmad Jamal set is still available. Maybe folks have it in other formats. High price point, but such terrific music. One of my favorites.

Unless they specifically tracked the return on investment for the physical catelogue, it is difficult to assess how effective it was as a marketing tool. When trying to make ends meet, marketing is usually the first to go in a small business. I understand why they likely eliminated the catalogue. That said, I looked forward to receiving it and to a lesser extent enjoy the Sunday email newsletter. Mail in the physical or electronic form is generally annoying, but anything from Mosaic puts me in a happy place.

So by that logic, we should ignore the fact that I own every authorized/legitimate Charlie Parker recording made available, yet I am a fraud bc I waited until yesterday to acquire Benedetti? Um. Ok.

This factored into my decision. Benedetti box has been on the wish list for 5-6 years. I'm a legitimate Bird fanatic and always felt incomplete without the Benedetti. Added urgency to support the good folks in Stamford in a real time of financial need.
