Internet addiction is a 'clinical disorder'
Christiern replied to 7/4's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I think they have 12 Step meetings for this addiction. It's online, somewhere. -
A Roman sun should be just the ticket, but don't leave it there too long. The sun I used is one that I found in Copenhagen. I think they're all good.
-
Back in the 78 rpm days, the solution was to place the disc on a flat surface in the sun, with a heavy pane of glass on top. If need be, one could place something to further weigh down the glass. It worked and I'm pretty sure that I also did that with Vinyl™

Thoughy y'all might find this interesting.

Re Prez playing clarinet, here are a Q and A from the interview I did with him on August 24, 1958. The session he refers to took place February 8, 1958: CA: Do you ever play the clarinet anymore? Prez: Yeah, I just made some records for Norman Granz, about four or five or six months ago, on my clarinet. Later in the interview, he added: "Well, the way we make records for Norman, him and I--you'll make so many records, and then he'd keep 'em and put 'em like in a vault, and he'd stash 'em. and when he wants to go and get 'em, you know, then he bring 'em out. So you can never tell when you'll hear one, 'cause that's his business, you know?"

Poor George--I hope he morphed nicely, MG. Thanks for the déjà vu, rostasi. She eventually got through to the end. That, by the way, is her whistling--she used to fill her mouth with ice cubes to tune it right! I recall her being asked about her husband by an AP reporter. "He's at home," she replied, "enjoying poor health." -
I guess your DNA is different from Greg's.

Copenhagen, 1950. Where was Photoshop when I needed it! Now let's see you bad hair day photos....and I do mean your, don't give us Phil Spector, Al Sharpton, Sanjaya Malakar, et al.

I took dear Elva Miller to lunch in Hollywood in September, 1966. She had recorded "Strangers in the Night" that morning and she wasn't quite sure if it went okay, but "the boys liked it," she said of her Capitol crew.

I came across these photos a couple of days ago. That's Dave Jones and his 2 Ampex machines at the Societé Des Jeunes Amis hall in New Orleans' French Quarter. I took the photos in January 1961, when Dave and I spent a couple of weeks in N.O. making the "Living Legends" series of albums for Riverside. Why do I post them here? Well, because Dave used the same equipment five months later to record Bill at the Vanguard. Interesting how such a tangled mess can result in the capture of such great music (and here I speak of Evans as well as my wonderful N.O. vets).

Homophobic creeps can take comfort in the fact that Alice McLeod was not gay. Sorry, could not resist injecting that into this scumbag's thread. Why is he still a member of this group????? People have been banished for far less offensive attacks on fellow members. Ok, I vented, now back to this pianist.

Wish I could do the one-armed pushup. Be that as it may, how do inexplicable links, such as this, come about. I'm sure that Kulkul's parents did not intend to have this old Icelandic guy from Denmark pop up on the site they so lovingly dedicated to their baby! I feel like an intruder. -
I Googled "Bill Grauer", looking for a photo to show 7/14. This, among other things, turned up. Can someone explain why I pop up on what appears to be a Vietnamese baby's web site? Anyone here know little Kulkul?

Teasing the Korean on WMNF's "Latino 54"
Christiern replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
Thanks, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. -
I recall seeing this show on the military base, in Iceland (TV was ilegal in off-base Iceland at the time). Never saw this particular episode,, but I am taken by the crowned queen's charm.

I like "Cabin in the Sky", but view it more for its historic rather than it cinematic value. What it has going for it is captured performances by artists who rarely caught Hollywood's fancy. When it comes to Ethel Waters, I think she is far more favorably represented in her dramatic picture, "Member of the Wedding", etc. She was as good an actress as she was a singer, IMHO. BTW, I may have mentioned this before, but I always remember Ruby Walker (aka Smith)'s response when I asked her what she could tell me about Ethel Waters. "Well, I can tell you one thing," she said, "here eyes weren't on no sparrow!"

Bill Grauer always reminded me of Charlie. -
The link malfunctions.

What were you trying to do with you 2nd post at O, RazJ? Bringing this thread back with a link that no longer works serves no purpose, does it?

Thanks, Randy, but did you know that one of the guests at the Armstrong wedding, William Gunn (who worked with Ma Rainey and was half of a vaudeville team w. his wife) became the father of actor/writer Bill Gunn? The latter was a very good friend of mine (deceased years ago), we collaborated on a miniseries for British TV back in the Seventies. He also wrote "The Landlord," a fine film, several plays, and played Ethel Waters' grandson in the film "The Sound and the Fury". He also appeared as a guitarist in the very oddly cast but interesting Route 66 episode that was written up in the Chicago Defender's August 31, 1961 issue. The Defender was known for its misspelling of names and this is a good example of that--note that Roy Eldridge gets 2 different spellings, and don't you love "Jo Jo Jones"?

Not impressed with what I have heard so far. I'm really not ready to replace marvelous music with a "marvelous engineering feat"--that's for the Steve Hoffman crowd. Besides, this does not sound so marvelous to me, the notes are clipped the human element has been done away with.

Back in the days when I was a dj in Philly and Bill Cosby regularly called to complain about the "Mickey Mouse" or "Uncle Tom" music (Armstrong's Hot Five, Jelly's Hot Peppers, etc.) I often wondered if he really listened to the music rather than the sound. I had a wish that someone would record Cannonball's quintet on 1920s equipment so that I could either prove or disprove my notion.
