Excerpt from the "Will" of an Obsessive Collector
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Peter's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I was thinking of having a nice big stack at the wake. sort of a little party favor. maybe a little sign that sez "gee I was a rabid spender on all this so take one on the condition that you never resell it. if it brings you some joy then so be it. i'll be watching." -
BLINDFOLD TEST #7 sign up sheet
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Man with the Golden Arm's topic in Blindfold Test
Sorry guy, but any of those Europeans who've had a headstart can get the discussion going when they want. Not up to the test giver once it leaves his hands. OOOH... Looks like I've been issued a yellow card by the keeper of the keys. Does one have to wallpaper stuff with smilies or have the power of uri geller to get someone to bend for a little humor? The comment was in jest as it plays back to a tag that was written on the BFT FAQ thread. When you do get your test disk Dan, make sure to crank up the volume as loud as it will go, then sit back in your barcalounger and press play. After that you can pick your tweeters off the floor and issue me a red card! :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile: :rsmile: Seriously tho... I mailed the US as soon as I got the reply from the EU so with the holiday they would have gone out pre-dawn today. I sprayed the west coast packages with silicone so they would get there faster. I will start the discussion thread tomorrow being Wednesday. I surrender my jovial control freekiness back to it's rightful owner. And if you're watching? S__V please do email me so I may get a set out to you, your queefiness. BTW I'm not changing my moniker to "guy". -

Don't tell me that was the theme of your BFT cd(s). Ah, those kegels of circular breathing so you speak? No, not a hint of Roswell Rut nor Evan Porker in the mix. edit: "S_V" is at the window again!!! -
OK so I don't see these on amazon France nor do I see these over here yet. So... how does one who's only Germanic is their sur name go about obtaining these??? Blakey Miles Chet Thanks,

Those US discs have all been dropped in the bin. I did not want to send those out without knowing that the deutchaspeekkars (guess you can read that a couple of ways) had theirs coming. But remember as with all us control freek jazznobs I get to start this whenever I see fit. :rsmile: -

Hope I'm not talking to myself here but... I have sent off all international test discs. Some Euro participants have already received their single sets that I mailed from here a couple days after the multi disk package was sent to Germany. Still waiting for confirmation of that delivery before start up for discussion. I will be sending all US tomorrow starting with a shotgun to the west coast first. I hope all are OK with the delay, if it is one. I actually expected the previous BFT to catch a bit more wind. -
I can sign you up, if interested. Tried sending a PM but received a 'Mail Failed' message. Let me know! got the PM but my reply was errored as well. i might be interested in taking the plunge so let me know how to include you or visa versa. thanks.

Never been a member of BMG but is there some sort of "buddy link" that gives a deal to a member who brings in a newbie? Would hate to sign on without sharing da luv.

Ian Carr Don Rendell - Shades of Blue; Dusk Fire
Man with the Golden Arm replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Re-issues
Saw this brief a couple of weeks ago and very much looking forward to this thanks to some of your hipping eons ago! BGO will deliver to the states for about US $30. OUCH! Come on Dusty! -
great to see this one up and coming. i had written hiroshi about this japanese version a long while back, the one that Lon has, and was told that it was part of a special universal anniversary release program that disappeared very, very quickly due to the fact that very few were even produced. it seems that this one is the only one aside from the late eighties fontana that issues the entire works.

Blindfold Test Frequently Asked Questions
Man with the Golden Arm replied to randyhersom's topic in Blindfold Test
Oh fine, just when I get a supa groover stripe you go and tear it off my sleeve. Your right! Obviously it's not too, too tough to do, just offering to save a step. I never thought of it afa a privacy issue. Plus all of us anally retentive obsessive compulsive jazzboh control freaks need to do it our own way anyhow!!! -
I'm really only posting so that I can be a Supa Groover! I've always thought the more the merrier as far a getting tunes to dig into. But I wholeheartily agree with Ray. It could be very easy to get a double time going with several tracks that weigh out at 10 - 17 minutes in length like Randy's test. Being on the other end and only being able to burn at 4X on my Mac I can attest to the fact that making up eighty discs versus forty could be quite a task!! This may have been mentioned previously but the main plus across the board for a singular session might be that the turnaround of participants would come a bit quicker. People are already disgruntled that they won't be making a BFT until after we find Osama.

Blindfold Test Frequently Asked Questions
Man with the Golden Arm replied to randyhersom's topic in Blindfold Test
After wrangling all the emails and requests I've compiled an address list with moniker in my text edit and have been working thru it as I burn along and pack 'em up. Quickly my idea is this: in a chain letter kind of way I can include this list and send it along to the next compiler via e-mail (Jim Dye BFT #8), so that way it will make it easier for him to just cut and paste onto the disk mailers as he sees fit or not. That compiler could forward the list along to the next and so on. Additons and deletions would be handled by the compiler based upon who signs up. Just to get one little step out of the way might make it much easier. Just a thought. -

Sorry Mike I was editing as you posted above... I've never heard his post seventies work either but i do have a very gruvy version of "The NEW Village Caller" on one of those "Dance Classics" cobble-ations. Saweeet as the kids say! And I love the tidbit that he was a prize winning middle-weight, right?

When I put up that vote he was tied for first! Now look at him. I got a Lytle bug a couple o summers ago (and many thanks to Mike Bonds who sent me a couple of painfully well put together comps from his lps) and must have listened to a Lytle mix for weeks on end. Those two on the Loop / New and Groovy twofer are just killin' as well. I stay away from his pat renderings of standards but his original stuff is down right the snappiest of all the vibists if I had my druthers. I love how he puts down that whirling shimmer. I tried my best to work in a rare Lytle cut onto my blindfold but alas it just was too mod for it's own good. I'm a sucker for those cheesy exotica tips as well, especially with a little Barretto spread on the bottom.. I've only recently begun to get into the chimes, and yes need to check out Walt Dickerson after hearing the snippet on Randy's test. Anybody weigh in on Pike's Atlantic "Jet Set" disc if only for Hancock on the organ?? And might MikeW have any commentary on the 'Dave Pike SET' that recorded in Germany in the early '70s. From my minute amount of searching there is a vanguard of guitarists, one Volker Kreigel, doing some extraordinary stuff?? Sounds interesting.

32 on the docket. European and UK out today. Almost all the usual suspects. Still time for more... I'll be sending out the domestics at the end of the week as I know that most of you will be so swarmed with Valentines that it will take some time to get back to business. -
Any one else notice that Alicia "key-synched" on her tribute. For some reason the ivories never went up and down as they say. And her hands were in the wrong places as well. Maybe she played rhythm piano? Was I imagining this?
