Very belated congrats to all the Phillies fans, even the ones that came out of the woodwork here only after they won the WS! And Tim Lincecum was the best pitcher over the full year, so he should have won it. And what's with announcing both winners on the same day??? Did I miss this last year with Rookie of the year, etc???

He might be the one guy that could get thru Andruw's thick skull on how to hit again...and to convince him that with 2 strikes, there is an 80% chance he will get a low and away slider, and to not swing...IF he could hit like he used to, IF he was in front of Manny...wow....

Recovering from a bad sinus infection, so a bit behind the times, but how about this!!!! I am ahead of all you suckers!!! Holliday appears headed to A's in trade from Colorado We all saw that coming, didn't we???

It's always a tough call with animals though. We took our old cat(about 17 at the time) all 3 of us, to the vet to put him down. Had been there several times in the past few months, and I.V's a couple of times. Was only able to eat roast beef. Had diarrhea. Had to have a towel in our lap if he got in it. In other words, it was time. Well, as soon as he came into the room(We had him wrapped in a towel, not in a kennel even) Well, something clicked in him, wanted to get down, explore the room, sniff everything, jump from table to counter...you know, show he was quite alive, hey don't think about putting me down! Vet said, well...we can try I. V. and antibiotics again, but it probably won't make any difference. Well, long story short, he did die...a month short of his 20th birthday. My Mom's poodle had a tumor on her side, that got bigger and bigger. One night the dog got very sick, and Mom and Dad took her to an overnight vet. Vet said it would probably be best to put her down. Mom said, can't we just see if she get's better??? Vet knew better than argue, so they took her home. I heard that soon afterwards, the dog had spasms, fell off the bed, and went under the bed!!! Mom's health was such she couldn't get down on her knees to get her out, Dad had to....She really kicked herself for not listening to the Vet...but, how can you really blame yourself??? You don't want to see a pet suffer, but it's also very hard to decide to end the life of a pet. My Dad was there for one cat that was put down, that was it. I am now the one with the animal when it's time....

You probably gave that dog the happiest year of his life! My condolences. I'm sure you are right, that dog had it made for his last year! Very sorry about your loss Paps!

By Maggie Fox, Health and Science Editor WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Japanese scientists have cloned mice whose bodies were frozen for as long 16 years and said on Monday it may be possible to use the technique to resurrect mammoths and other extinct species. http://www.reuters.com/article/scienceNews...=22&sp=true

What Quincey said! Congrats Phillies fans, it's been a long time since the last one!!! And Paps, the Rays will be contenders for years and years to come!!! And I hope the umps don't get paid for this series!

What's the best software for recording old LP's tapes, etc???

Dan, I'm getting the feeling that Audacity is just not the best bet. As far as I can see, no adjustments to recording level, etc...I have vista, and clicking on Realtek HD audio manager, I did boost microphone to +30dB, and turning both the small tape decks sound up all the way, and my computer speakers up all the way, I can at least hear what I was trying to record through the speakers...the Realtek shows the imputs and outputs on screen, but if I hook up to line in, no sound for some reason.... -
cuz, I'm cheap! My Dad was playing one of his old, old cassettes that had themselves been transferred from Reel to reel tapes. Stuff he recorded off the radio in Europe in the 50's and 60's. Anyway, the tapes are getting old, and one jammed in the player. I've talked for a long time about transferring them to cd via the computer, so I looked into some free programs. First thing I downloaded, after a search, audiograbber, had a swell review from CNET/download.com but, unless I am missing something, it wants to find the audio files already on your computer, disc, whathaveyou, but, it's not a recorder itself. Then I remembered a friend's husband sent me a bunch of links to programs he downloaded to do some simple home recordings. Saw Audacity, downloaded it. It actually records. But, the problems I am having now are quality. I thought the best sound would be to go from Headphonec to line in on the computer. But, no sound. Is there a headphone/mic to regular RCA cable??? I just have a cable with mic to mic plugs. I copy stuff from Beta and VHS, to DVD no problem, have my Dad's Marantz pre amp going to our Beta(Tons of inputs and outputs on the back), a switcher to play laserdiscs, betatapes, VHS, DVD....but am feeling pretty stupid about this. have never really messed with audio copying, except to copy a cd to tape back when I had a cassette player in my car. Very straightforward. Going from Headphone to Mic on computer, I get sound, faintly on the computer's speakers. I recorded a bit with Audacity, stopped it, and found volume and playback is pretty decent, at least for talk, music on the other hand...so, I thought, stop using the el cheapo tape player and get my Boombox out. Well, for some reason, it gets even worse through it! Not even worth recording. Now that I am messing with this, I am likely to record some of my old audio tapes which are all music since some of them are 25+ years old as well. But, I really don't want to spend a lot of money on this, if I don't have to! First stuff that came up in searches was $200 bucks... Suggestions???? Plug tape player into betamax, then copy beta tapes to DVD???

You are not losing interest, just cuz your team has lost 2 straight, right? Don't worry, they will win tomorrow, or is it Tuesday??? Too lazy to look up. Then all bets are off back in Tampa. Yeah Fox sports has way more annoying advertising than TBS!
-
Yeah, it's rare to see a guy older than me in the World Series! And to win with his slow stuff, truly amazing!.And what a beautiful play by Moyer, would have gone down as one of the best plays in a WS game-if they only counted great plays that didn't result in an out! That call by the ump! You're right, a tough angle, but all the years of umping(umping?) should tell him to get in a better position. And when I think of Jamie Moyer, I think Cubs, even though he wasn't there that long. And Who is Jack Quinn, and why isn't he in the HOF??? Was until recently the oldest guy to steal a base(I think), hit a homer, and win a WS game??? Man, what kind of steroids was he on in the 20's and 30's?

There's only so many teams that you can spot a team a 3-1 edge and come back and win. Who knows but when you've won a title the year before one three years before that, maybe it takes the edge off a little bit. Still, they made it interesting. I'll be honest i think it takes the edge OFF big time. In my opinion Red Sox nation has never been the same since these 2 championships. They might have saved us this year , give us something to moan and bitch about over the loooooooong winter. Guess you guys will have to sign CC to keep him from the Yankees, get Lowe again(he really does want to play for the Sox again, think there will be any interest?) and re-sign Manny for 6 years, apologizing all over the place for not realizing that he is an iconic player!

But did he soften your laundry? Egads, 2 typos on that last second add another line. And I wasn't even drinking. I have a feeling Bassjazz has been though.... -

I'm shocked to hear all the Philly being the favorite team talk here! All the folks on the post game panel seemed to be for the Rays. I think their biggest problem will be thinking they have already won the WS....Phillies may win it if the Rays are too agressive against Hamels and Moyer. If they pretend they are still playing the Red Sox, they will likely win it. I just hope whatever happens, it's not over in 4 or 5 games...
-
Gotta disagree there. That Red Sox comeback in game five (which apprently was watched by everyone EXCEPT Red Sox fans) was unbelievable, game six was even more exciting, and this was one could've gone either way. All it could've taken was one swing of the bat. Series like this, IMHO, are what make baseball so wonderful. I agree Al. I had to keep flipping away during the last 3 games, I felt so stressed! This team reminds me so much of the Braves of course, in 1991. I wouldn't have been a bit surprised to see Drew hit another late inning homer, for for even Lowrie to hit a 3 run homer or tie the game up.
-
The Rays played their hearts out, and won. The Sox did not quit, they just lost. Someone has to. You do swing at pitches that are not strike at times,(Sox less than most teams) you have to, or you sit there with your bat on your shoulders like Kotsay and Drew at least tried to do. I fully expected another last minute win from the Red Sox. It's nice to see some fresh blood in the playoffs. Baseball needs it. The fans need it. Price pitched very well, thank God they didn't take him out like Buck Martinez was talking about....Boulfour(sp) couldn't pitch a strike to save his life last time out.... Paps, Congrats, enjoy!!!!

That was weird! I was checking out TNT, TBS, everywhere. Couldn't figure out how the game had been rainout out indoors! I never saw a crawl whenever I flipped by TBS... ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - TBS had technical difficulties and wasn't able to televise the start of Game 6 of the American League championship series between Boston and Tampa Bay on Saturday night. TBS was experiencing router failure in Atlanta, which caused transmission problems, Rays spokesman Dave Haller said. TBS spokesman Jeff Pomeroy didn't immediately return a telephone call from The Associated Press seeking comment. In place of the game, TBS televised an episode of "The Steve Harvey Show." A crawl on the screen ran repeatedly, saying: "We are experiencing technical difficulties." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2008...tory?id=3650780
