  1. One of the sadder stories I recall was a website several years ago(Around 1999?) that had many old Sherlock Holmes radio shows you could stream. My Mom used to check it out pretty often for updates, but there hadn't been any in awhile, then finally the Mother of the person who ran it posted that he had died. He was just some young guy in his 20's who was a huge fan of old radio.
  2. As beautiful is it is there, I can't imagine wanting to spend any real time in that kind of cold....in almost total darkness for months. http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/11/s...antarctica.html
  3. What is that??? A pretty rat??? Very nice photos by the way!
  4. Thanks everyone!!!! It's nice that we can put politics aside, and still wish the best for folks here! Jim, I recall seeing that Maxwell house ad years ago on ebay, have kicked myself for not for years not upping the final bid....Meh, just print it out, looks pretty sharp. And Chris, that is a nice card. Something about it just appeals to me, not quite sure what. A pretty rainy, calm birthday. I was going to say a music free birthday, but I have listened to ol' Annette Hanshaw(who is in the Maxwell house ad, she was on that show!) and now a Capitol compilation cd, Great Swing Classics that I bought back when Media play was going under and for some reason never listened to . Ellington, James, Goodman, on that label in the 50's=amazing sound quality!
  5. Good for you Dan! I would have been wrong like manny, and guessed Many. Or vise versa.
  6. That one was a real shocker- I think about 30% of MLB players are from DR, so they have a deep talent pool. Maybe the DR players didn't take Netherlands seriously, maybe Netherlands caught lightning in a bottle. You'd think after losing once to them that the DR team would win big, but... I saw some quotes from Alou and Jose Reyes that were very condescending of the Netherlands. One of them said after losing the first game that they (D.R.) should have beaten them 9-0. Bigmouths....
  7. Shit! #1, with him out of the lineup, the Skankees actually have a chance to be winners. #2, the jerk is on my fantasy team as one of my four keepers. Aaaaarghghghgh!!!! Without A-Rod, and if Tex has a typical Tex April/May, the Yankees will be in big trouble.
  8. You know, that was the one thing that didn't impress me in the least about Arizona -- very low HQ (Hottie Quotient). Fortunately, my wife was with me, so I was a happy man. But really, not an attractive populace. You have got to be kidding me!!! Where were you, staying in old age homes???
  9. Are you saying farmers shouldn't pay a pittance??? My Uncle, like many in and around the L.A. area, pay hundreds of dollars a month for water. Still doesn't seem to slow folks down much. But, just saying no outdoor watering(unless it is something like a garden) would probably make a huge difference.
  10. Not much! Plus, even before the economy really tanked, just about every big chain store was closing shop....
  11. Moose, it's been awhile since you've been to Macon I assume??? Or was that tongue in cheek?
  12. It make be an hour from the ATL, but I sure haven't heard of it. Doesn't mean it's not swell....
  13. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9...;show_article=1 Will people in La La land actually, you know...stop watering their lawns and plants???? I remember visiting my Uncle in 2007, and him saying how terrible the drought was, didn't know what was going to happen next. I said it was pretty bad back in Atlanta too. For years we had an odd/even system for watering, couldn't run water outside between 10 am to 8 PM. And had gotten so bad, we had to stop ANY and all outdoor watering!!!(We can now, odd/even) Later on, I see him turn his sprinklers on, all over his yard!!!! Saw his neighbors did the same thing. Saw businesses running sprinklers in the heart of the day. Just about every lawn in Atlanta looked like a yard in a desert, meanwhile, in the desert, every yard was as lush as one would expect to see in Ireland. So, will people finally let their yards die??? Or is that a fate worse than death, and would rather give up flushing toilets and taking showers???
  14. Any proof of that, or just a nice rumor???
  15. Two left lenses—you, of all people! How awful that experience must have been! So, do you now see better with two right lenses? You know, I had a feeling someone was going to say something about 2 left lenses, thanks for not disappointing me! Having 2 lenses that are right, did help!
  16. Closest thing to this happening to me was probably 10+ years ago at an optician. 2 identical charges the same day showed up on my statement. But, I noticed it, no one else. I also got a prescription with 2 left lenses.(I also figured that out-they were just saying I wasn't used to the adjustments yet) For some reason, I didn't stay with that outfit....
  17. Hope you have a great one!!!!! I hope the honeys at school aren't too distracting!
  18. Have a great one!!!
  19. This just in: Manny is the dumbest dumbfuck in the history of Dumbfucks!!! Turns down 25 Million to play this year with the Dodgers, with a players option to leave after one year, or take 20 Mil and play for them in 2010(Or get hurt this year, and get a guaranteed contract for 2010!) He must truly be an hitting savant, and have no other brain power outside the game. Garret Anderson is no Manny, not by a long shot, but he will get only 2.5 Mil to play for the Braves this year. 84 RBI's last year. Manny drove in 121. So, are 37 more RBI's worth an extra 22.5 Million this year??? I guess not, he must be worth much more, he turned that down!!! In this economy!!! Why do people like him get all the talent in the world??? So, what does he do??? Hold out??? Hope after turning down the Dodgers, they will come back and put another year on the end of the deal??? Does he think some team in mid April will be so desperate for his services, they will give him 30 MIL, for 3-4 years??? I'd love to see him sit out, and find no one will even give him more than a Million come July. I had a thought....one other goofy possibility. Some crazy team in Japan is going to give him 30, 35 Million??? Somehow I can't really imagine that being allowed,(and an you imagine some slacker like him in Japan?) I bet they have strict team pay limits. But, one never knows. Nothing else makes sense. Oh, and spellcheck turns Dumbfuck, into Jumbuck, whatever that is!
  20. I periodically get a recorded call on my cell phone, of all things, telling me the factory warranty on my '93 Miata (which I bought used many moons ago) is about to expire. ... I often wonder if this is just a shotgun operation designed to troll among the elderly. Well, folks that own Miata's are often old.
  21. Tom, do you have a PC or a MAC??? I was clueless as how to do this as well, til I got a new computer last summer. Along with Vista, I also got a few free programs such as Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe and Windows Movie Maker. Looks like you can get only a 30 day free trail download of the Cyberlink program http://www.download.com/CyberLink-PowerDir...4-10483012.html But you can download Windows movie maker for free. http://www.download.com/Windows-Movie-Make...l?tag=mncol;pop I am NOT saying this is the best way to do it, just way I found easiest. (And if you decide to go with these programs, I can go into much more detail via PM) After much cussing, I found I could use the cyberlink software to capture clips from DVD's I had made(If you want to make clips off of copy protected discs, you will need to download something like DVD43 -it's free and amazingly easy to use) But, those clips were not edited. And I don't know if it's their software that sucks, or because there are some functions that aren't available without upgrading, but I just hated trying to edit the clips. Don't know how I figured out I could take the clips(they would automatically end up in my Documents folder) drag or copy them to Windows Media player, and very easily edit clips (Little split button on the right side hid from me at first) then "Publish" the clip in it's new form, and it would show up in my Video folder. They are WMV' clips, but they transfer nicely to youtube, with good quality. You could get some software to transfer them to AVI if you have your heart set on that, but most of the "free" software either puts a trademark on the clip, or stupid audio noise, till you cough up $30+ to buy their product. Since I haven't slept yet, I am a bit foggy at 9 :15 in the AM, if I am not making much sense, again I can talk more about it later. I just found few forum tech guys could explain it in any way I could understand, so was tickled to find a way to do it that didn't require me to get a computer science degree! Here is the latest clip I put up on Youtube, a George E. Stoll jazzy number from the late 20's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lfJ0MtZ_bE (If you click on High quality, below the clip on the right hand side, it really makes a difference in quality. Watch, after writing all this, someone will mention some super simple all in one free program!
  22. EDIT: Wanted to see what year this clip would be from, since Cavett said he was 81, and Wiki, the be all and end all of thuth, said he died at 74! One more joke of his that keeps on giving I guess! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Venuti Here's another part of the show as well.
  23. I've been in 2 different Radio Shacks in the last week, and they have on clearance, a Sylvania Blu-Ray player, for $139! That's as cheap as I have seen one so far....
  24. Better late than never, I always say, from time to time... Hope you had a great one!!!!
  25. I know, I know, it's not Red Sox news, but try to keep your eyes open anyway. Griffey signed with the Mariners. Which I think he should have done all along. But, the AJC (Atlanta newspaper) said he was a Brave, just pending the small stuff. This "leak"may have been a reason he didn't sign with the Braves. Par for the course for this offseason for the braves, and makes old Junior seem quite sensitive. So much fun being a fan right now. First, one goes from thinking A-Rod will be the legit home run king, and hit more than Barroid did, then you find Junior has a wide prima donna streak in him...just great. You need to start from the bottom of the list to see how things crashed and burned. Griffey Chooses Mariners Over Braves By Tim Dierkes [February 18 at 9:36pm CST] 9:36pm: C. Trent Rosecrans of 1530 Homer talked to Griffey's agent Brian Goldberg, who confirmed the deal. It was a difficult decision for Griffey, who spoke to Willie Mays and Hank Aaron before deciding. MLB.com's Jim Street has more on the Mays conversation. 8:55pm: Jerry Crasnick has a clarification on the financial details. Street's numbers were just a bit off. Griffey can only earn $2.5MM in incentives -- up to $4.5MM altogether. 8:14pm: Interesting tidbit from Mark Bowman: Sources have indicated that Griffey's tide turned shortly after he became upset with the fact that The Atlanta-Journal Constitution was reporting that he'd already decided to play for the Braves. 8:05pm: MLB.com's Jim Street has some more information on the contract. It "includes a $2 million base salary and up to $4 million in incentives based on at-bats and attendance." The M's are hoping he'll draw an additional 200,000 fans to Safeco Field this season. 7:51pm: Geoff Baker has some of the financial details: Ken Griffey Jr. is heading back to the Mariners on a one-year contract, reportedly for a base salary of roughly $2 million and incentive bonuses as well. 7:33pm: ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick has informed MLBTR that Griffey told the Braves of his decision less than an hour ago. He is indeed going to be a Mariner next season. 7:23pm: John Hickey of the Seattle Post-Intellignecer has now confirmed it. Junior is headed back to Seattle. 7:19pm: WSB, an Atlanta-based television station, is reporting that the Ken Griffey Jr. has chosen the Mariners over the Braves. 3:10pm: MLB.com's Mark Bowman has a bit of info, suggesting Griffey is sensitive about offending the Mariners and their fans. 1:17pm: Larry Stone of the Seattle Times says Braves GM Frank Wren expects Griffey's decision "pretty shortly." Bobby Cox said it could be today or tomorrow. Griffey's apparently already passed a physical for both the Braves and Mariners. 1:01pm: The Braves hope for an update from Griffey later today, says Bowman. 11:19am: A WSB-TV (Atlanta) report indicates that Braves officials believe Griffey is leaning toward the Mariners. 9:58am: David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has an update. He believes Griffey has decided to sign with the Braves, and explains Chipper Jones' involvement in the process. 9:06am: MLB.com's Mark Bowman does not believe Griffey has told the Braves his decision yet. It's about time we wrap this thing up, in my opinion. 7:54am: Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times says Ken Griffey Jr. was to meet in the evening with the Braves and was expected to sign off on a deal. An announcement is expected today. Many reporters received similar indications yesterday, even with Griffey and his agent insisting nothing was decided. And now the beat writer of the braves, David O'Brien, is being pummeled for being part of Griffey not coming to the ATL...
