  1. Thanks! TCM ran a bunch of old musical shorts last month....I knew about it years ago and have the full clip on VHS....somewheres. This time, the short was cut off right after Bunny's solo, since my DVR was confused about the starting times of these shorts....I remember years ago emailing someone who ran a Berigan site, and he hadn't seen the clip but was pretty sure for Dorsey and Berigan to be in the Rich orch, it must have been 1932, not 1934.... Have added a Larry Clinton clip now as well(Has Carol Bruce, AKA Mama from WKRP as his girl singer)
  2. Have a great one! Age is just a number, and all that....
  3. Maybe it's because I'm midway thru my 40s, but I've met a couple of 60 year olds in the past year that I did think were in their 40s. .. No, it's just cuz you're old and can't see well anymore!
  4. You'll never guess! Amazed someone else didn't have the clip up already.... Probably computer challenged folks like me have the short as well.... Any guesses as to who the Tenor man or the pianist are(were?) Oh, I remember asking this a year or so ago when needing help youtubing....no one fessed up at the time....anyone else put any clips on youtube????
  5. Glad to hear he's aok! Was getting worried myself....
  6. Are you the Duke of Earl then? Sorry.... Glad you had a great one!
  7. Thom, sorry....my new ISP, AT&T is having all sorts of problems of late. No connection since about 3 am. New, upstart company, you have to expect it I thought he and Don they were a great pair, I never heard that exchange before! Better than Skip and Joe Simpson for sure. They always seemed like oil and water, yet they still team(teamed) up from time to time. And thanks for the Skip-isms! Oh, like I said, never was a fan of Joe and Skip together, but Joe with "Boog" Jon Sciambi who do regional broadcast, are surprisingly good. He bashes "Frenchy" when he swings at a pitch a foot outside, which takes some guts, but also praises him when he seems to be making progress in his swing, and approach. .
  8. For those that don't know, he hosted a pre game call in show on radio for years, and the dumb questions like that, day after day....and you could tell by the tone of his voice he hated them! He didn't have the best voice for broadcasting, but a real pro, who more often than not, told it like it was....and before other teams jumped ahead of them in popularity, being on TBS in their hayday meant millions of folks coast to coast were Braves fans in large part because of Skip(And Pete Van Wieren) GA, he has looked terrible since last year....he's diabetic, said he had kidney problems, congestive heart failure(Anyone reading this, if you are diabetic, lose weight, NOW) yet it was still a huge shock....I heard him Thursday(didn't know that was his last game) and he sounded better than he has in the past few months. I'm sure there will be better tributes, bios tomorrow, but someone posted this on a braves blog....better to hear than to read... “A chopper to Chipper…” “There’s a drive…” “And a fan from Aiken, South Carolina comes away with a souvenir.” “A little insurance wouldn’t hurt right here.” “Lined… caught!” “It’s a partial sellout,” trying not to say the game had only drawn 6,000 fans. “Time flies, Bulova soars.” Or, one game this season he said, “Time soars, Bulova flies.” “And once again the bases are loaded. I bet (opposing manager’s name) wishes he was.”
  9. It really doesn't mean a thing, she could be working out like crazy PLUS using HGH....but they showed what she was doing on ABC news a week or so ago. She has hired folks who's only job is to stretch her out, for something like 2-3 hours a day! Plus spending 4 hours a day in the pool, working out....It would be great if she's doing this free of chemical/hormonal help...I read somewhere where she is doing extra testing.....
  10. Anyone who has followed the braves for decades, knows that broadcasts will never be the same.....Only because of him, did I watch last place teams year after year....Rest in Peace, Skip..... Skip Caray, "Voice of the Braves," has died Last Edited: Sunday, 03 Aug 2008, 9:25 PM EDT Created: Sunday, 03 Aug 2008, 9:02 PM EDT Sources close to the family said Skip Caray has died. He was 68-years-old. SideBar ATLANTA (MyFOX Atlanta) -- Sources close to the family said 68-year-old Skip Caray, the Voice of the Braves, died Sunday evening. According to Wikipedia, Harry Christopher "Skip" Caray, Jr. (born August 12, 1939 at St. Louis, Missouri) is a U.S. TV and radio broadcaster for the Atlanta Braves of the National League. He is the son of the late baseball announcer Harry Caray. Caray is the father of fellow Atlanta Braves broadcaster Chip Caray; another son, Josh Caray is an announcer for the Rome Braves. In 1976, he was added to the broadcast team for the Braves, a position he has held since. The Atlanta Braves Radio Network currently flagship on WGST (AM) and WUBL-FM in Atlanta.[1] In September 2007, Caray was not asked to announce LDS games on TBS and was relegated to local network Peachtree TV.[2] Skip Caray was inducted into the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame in 2003 alongside long time Braves broadcaster Pete Van Wieren.[3] He has been recognized with six Georgia Sportscaster-of-the Year awards from the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, as well as a Georgia-area Emmy award.[4] On December 18, 2006, the Braves organization announced that Caray (and partner Van Wieren) have signed three year contracts to continue doing Braves game broadcasts on their radio network. However, Caray only announced ten games on TBS in the 2007 season before being relegated to Peachtree TV. Skip Caray's health was declining but he still hoped to call all the Braves home games.

  12. Very interesting! EPSN shows stats from 2005-2007 under "splits" and Juniors numbers are 92 257, Manny 100 334. But, going from 2006, til this year, junior has 72 Hr's and 224 RBI's Manny,75 HR's 258 RBI's! Meanwhile, Griffey probably gave away his 16 mil for next year, and Manny thinks he's worth 100mil for 4 years????
  13. Better defensively at least...and I bet he runs it out every time. And that will help the other players no doubt, correct??? ESPN is talking about it finally.....Hansen and Moss also go to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh made up for the lousy trade to the Yankees(Unless that double A guy really turns into something) Brandon Moss is a very Solid player but really no room for him now in Boston . This is a good trade for the SOX!!! I am PISSED that they sent Moss away. There absolutely is room for him - Coco goes away next year and he is the fourth outfielder. Moss has big time upside, very solid defensively, he's the better player than the guy they sent to Texas for Gagne who ended up with near All-Star first half numbers. This flat out SUCKS to lose him! And on top of that, to lose him for Bay when apparently he could have gone to the Royals for Mahay, a decent reliever? That makes it even worse - they give up an arm (OK, an arm everyone was tired of waiting for) and get nothing for the bullpen and lose Moss. This displeases me greatly. How long before Bowden AND Bard are called up to help the bullpen? Because there's nothing else they can do now. The only other hope is that Oki has looked better lately, but I still don't trust him like I did before. Just focus your anger on Manny....if he had played hard, none of this would have been forced into happening. Jason Bay had the most walks on the Pirates, and will play hard, I think you guys will find that so refreshing, it will make up for the lack of production(But, with guys on base all the time, I bet he goes back to being a 100+ RBI guy again)
  14. Lets see, they have Juan Peirre, Matt Kemp, Andruw Jones, Andre Ethier already in the outfield...and all but Jones should start everyday. And Andruw is paid the most....weird how cheap the Dodgers have suddenly become! They shouldn't be cheap McCourt is from Boston and he is LOADED....real estate! Well, that makes it even stranger! The Indians are paying the rest of Casey Blake's contract, for God's sake! Dodgers gave a better prospect for that....

  17. That was the straight-up deal that the Dodgers offered. Really???? So help me, I was kidding...heard nothing about that....I did think that if he had been traded last deadline, and could talk to everyone on your team, he might have been rescued somehow......
  18. Sorry, that was just cruel....
  19. Perhaps you guys will get Andruw Jones!
  20. Man, you guys menton trade, and espn news has no mention of it...anyone watching??? Now we know why we don't see these 3 "insiders" on tv very often! Poor Linda Coen!
  21. Apple The Cow Sells For $1 Million At Auction Animal Could Be Most Expensive Cow Ever Sold In U.S. POSTED: 3:43 pm EDT July 30, 2008 UPDATED: 3:49 pm EDT July 30, 2008 LITCHFIELD, Conn. -- Apple was certainly the apple of someone's eye. The cow was sold for $1 million Monday at an auction in Connecticut. When the 4-year-old show cow paraded in front of 800 onlookers down the runway at Arethusa Farm, bidding started at $200,000. A small group of partners from Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin placed the winning bid, reported NBC Hartford, Conn., station WVIT. Representatives of the farm said Apple could be the most expensive cow ever sold in this country. The reason for the steep price tag is her genes, her breeding potential and her rare red color, the television station reported. "She has the ability now to make black and white daughters or red and white daughters that could sell. In fact we sold five daughters of her yesterday as well, separately," said Terri Packard, manager of Arethusa Farm. The 5-month-old calves sold for as much as $160,000 each. "So her pedigree and her physical structure are what make her very marketable and the fact that she's red is the icing on the cake," Packard said. Apple is heading to Wisconsin on Wednesday to get back to work as a milking cow and embryo producer. That is how her new owners hope the investment pays off. http://www.wnbc.com/news/17040832/detail.html
  22. "the Nation" are you really going to be stuck with Manny??? Shoot, at this point, I'd release him and sign Bonds....Bonds at least didn't skip days because of who was pitching. That Gammons column was just brutal on him....I'd rather have a roid guy(We sure know he wasn't alone) Or anyone else than I guy who continues to just flat out quit......He just flat out disgusts me now...
  23. Stick to VORP and PECOTA, he's only 38 til November! Dan, you are right, he looked terrible earlier this year, but I have seen some hits of late(And just checking his stats, he's got a 12 game hitting streak right now)and his swing looks better. He hit a 91-93 MPH fastball last night for a homer...not saying he can hit 97 MPH still, but he is one of those rise to the occation kind of guys....Does Quintin have a good enough arm for right??? He's played some center, correct?? Griffey would be a very good left fielder...if he could pick it up on the fly, so to speak. I saw that he still has a good arm, from a play at the plate the other day...
  24. MG, I just have to apoligize! I don't know where my heads been on late, but not on top of my shoulders! I recall thinking, I bet it's been 2 weeks since I listened to the first half of the BFT, and I saw it had been....more than a month....so naturally, I let my embarrassment stand in the way of saying anything, and now it's beyond stupid how long it's been! I know how I felt when people didn't comment after a few days! Sorry! Got around to listening to the last half, and very much enjoyed it, even if I didn't know who it was! Gee, I guess I should download the bonus disc right around now, eh?
  25. Of course, I decide to get a new computer, and switch ISP at the same time alll these big trades go down. Plus, my friend Dale sick with ALS, was beaten up so badly after his car broke down in downtown ATL, his was hospitalized for a week(And let go even with an ear still bleeding, and balance issues! ) has had to stay with us after getting released since his worthless Mother won't let him stay in HIS house! My problems, and baseball are not that big a deal, all things considered.....But, it's a nice escape. Still don't know what to make of the Tex trade. I really thought we could get more, with more teams getting into the mix. I know he's considered a rental, but if the Angels re-sign him, it's a very good deal for them. Kotchman looks to be just about as good an infielder, might hit for higher average as well. But, less power, and we are already very weak in that department. Plus some 25 year old pitcher in AA??? Come on! I thought we could at least get Juan Rivera tossed in, but the Angels really need 6 outfielders I guess Now we will trade Ohman for some bag of balls since we can't possibly pay him 3 Mil next year. God I love cheap corp. ownership! If I had a nickel for every time someone said on a braves blog, "Ted, please buy the braves again" I'd have a lot of nickels....
