  1. Good question! I don't know what the record is, but Harmon Killebrew only hit .243 in '62. Cecil Fielder was a point better for one of his titles. There could be others - I just did a quick look at RBI leaders but batting average wasn't displayed next to them. Last year Ryan Howard struggled in the spring and made up for it as the year progressed. We'll see if the pattern repeats. He's having a hot July so far. I've been wondering this very thing for a little while! Just amazing. been checking. Don't see anyone close to Killebrew. Thought Dave Kingman might have done it, but the year he drove in 115(Winfield drove in 118) he hit .288!!! Ryan Howard is projected to hit 41 homers, 136 RBI's , hit .223 with 216 strikeouts!!! Was hitting .224 on the 16th of June, Hitting .223 today. Usually, guys with this low an average are easy to get out with runners in scoring position. Get this, .162 with no one on, .333 with RISP!!!!!
  2. That's right! I'll tell you what though, if your guys get Sabathia, everyone will be worried about the Brewers.
  3. That was an amazing game, wasn't it??? I just don't think they can climb back in the race, but......well, I take that back!!! 15 games under .500, but only 7 games out!!!! Every single team in the NL west is under .500! The Diamondbacks looked like the best team in the NL early...
  4. Best clip ever???? Oh, and please click on more info....it WILL change your life! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08kjTOP75OI&NR=1
  5. My older brother has just informed me that he believes next Christmas will be his last. After a lengthy, mysterious illness, he was finally diagnosed with several different progressive, debilitating, incurable diseases. I've been dealing with the implications of his diagnosis since Christmas but this is the first he's made reference to a time frame. Dan, very sorry to hear that! I hope he is wrong about this....My Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer in the summer of 2003. We thought that would be the last Christmas. Strange to buy gifts for someone that might only have them a few months....then the Cancer went into remission, and when Christmas 2004 came around, it didn't seem like the last one...which it was. You just never know.
  6. Gosh, I really hope some dog loving fellow inmate hears about this, and can see how hard he can kick this guy in the nuts....of course, anyone who would do that do a dog, doesn't have any, anyway....
  7. And Dan, what FranCOMA ( ) did last night was really dumb. Of course, if Tek had gotten a hit, he'd be a genius today. But, he still ain't Cox stupid. Don't know if knew(Or cared) But the Braves played in Toronto with 3 injured infielders who couldn't play at all. Chipper with his quad injury. Yunel Escobar with a shoulder problem from sliding into 1st, and Omar Infante has a bad Hammy. But, that's ok, according to Bobby and the rest of the braintrust of the Braves, cuz we were in the AL Park! Did you know that you only really need 22 players Dan???? And Cox likes to have 13 in the bullpen at all times. So, he made an extreme sacrifice, and sent down a guy so we could call up Brent Lillibridge(A highly thought of prospect we got from the Pirates, a skinny little 24 year old that no joke, looks 16-and is hitting .200 this year)to play short. Ruben Gotay at 3rd.(not really a 3rd baseman) And one guy, ONE GUY on the bench. Catcher Corky Miller. Ever heard of him??? .182 Lifetime average, and is hitting abot 115 points lower than "Tek" this year. He's half the hitter your catcher is Dan, does that tell you anything??? Then we hear Kelly Johnson had the flu while in Toronto, but HAD to play, since there was no one else! I would have laughed if Frenchy and center fielder Blanco had run into each other, and we had to use Jair Jurrjens and Corky in the outfield!!!! No team, no last place team even would put themselves in that position....but, the braves did...and lost 2 of 3 from a team we clearly should have beaten 2 of 3....
  8. Funny how the teams with just about the best starting pitching in baseball(Indians and Blue Jays) are both sub .500 teams.... In retrospect, both teams should have traded some of it away for a hitter or 2...
  9. Really amazing how far Frenchy has fallen....he has been booed of late as well, so I can't quite understand the mention of the fans not standing for him being sent down....Unlike Andruw last year, he really is trying, looking at video tape, tons of extra hitting...just can't hit anymore. And swings at sliders 2 feet outside Braves mulling Francoeur move Club hesitant to send popular outfielder to Minor Leagues By Mark Bowman / MLB.com ATLANTA -- Next Monday will mark the third anniversary of Jeff Francoeur's Major League debut. All indications are that he'll still be in the Majors at that time. But as his offensive struggles have continued, he's given Braves management more reason to at least continue evaluating the potential circumstances of sending him back to the Minor Leagues. Because the National League East first-place Phillies sent Brett Myers back to the Minors on Tuesday with the hope that he'd regain his successful pitching form, there was at least some talk at Turner Field on Wednesday regarding the possibility of Francoeur encountering the same fate. While a team official at least confirmed there has been discussion about sending Francoeur to the Minors to rediscover his lost swing, there was no indication that this was an imminent possibility. One primary reason that the Braves haven't shipped Francoeur back to the Minors is the potential backlash they might receive from their fans, who have remained faithful to No. 7, despite the fact that he entered Wednesday night's game against the Phillies hitting just .239 with a .294 on-base percentage and .383 slugging percentage. Even before he homered in his Major League debut on July 7, 2005, Francoeur was a favorite among Braves fans. Growing up in suburban Atlanta, he was named the high school Player of the Year for Georgia in both football and baseball. "This is really the first time he's ever struggled," said Braves All-Star catcher Brian McCann, who has been Francouer's best friend since they were 12 years old. The only three qualified NL outfielders with a lower OPS (on-base plus-slugging-percentage) than Francoeur's mark of .677 are Houston's Michael Bourn, Los Angeles' Juan Pierre and Colorado's Willy Taveras, who are all known primarily for their speed. "Everybody goes through slumps," McCann said. "You have to try to catch what you're doing wrong mechanically before it snowballs. That's why this game, to me, is the toughest sport to play. It's every day." After hitting .293 last year, Francoeur entered this season hoping to keep that consistency, while improving his power and bidding for a third consecutive season with at least 100 RBIs. But in his past 72 games entering Wednesday, the 24-year-old outfielder had hit .229 with a .291 on-base percentage and a .351 slugging percentage. There was some hope that he was turning the corner when he recorded consecutive multihit games on June 12-13. But over the next 16 games, Francoeur hit .138 with a .206 on-base percentage and a .155 slugging percentage. "It's tough to see him go through it," McCann said. "But you see what kind of guy you are when you are struggling, and he's still trying to stay upbeat. Everybody around here knows that he's working as hard as he can. It would be one thing if he wasn't at least trying." http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/article...sp&c_id=atl

  11. Citation? No, he was in a Chevy Celebrity!
  12. Al, I'm going to assume you see more of them than I get to. Is Saltalamacchia ever going to make the next step, or did the Braves really pull one off? Depends on if the Rangers ever give him that opportunity. The Rangers keep calling up all these youngsters, that a lot of folks around here are wondering if the Rangers are auditioning young talent for the trading block. Al, Thom....I feel like Saltalamacchia has been as poorly used as you will ever see a prized rookie used. Salty missed almost half of the 2006 year because of injuries, and played only 91 games in AA. He played 22 games in AA in 2007(Yes, I am looking this stuff up! ) and was called up by the braves. He looked BETTER than McCann last year! Better at blocking the plate(The one thing McCann doesn't do well these days behind the plate) much better at throwing runners out(Shocked he is having so much trouble this year, and McCann has been much better-shows one year does predict a career) But, Booby Cox in his infinate wisdom, kept running McCann out there with a bad ankle, and had Salty ride the pine...for weeks, he'd be lucky to play one game. Couldn't use him to pinch hit.... Then, when it was painfully clear Scott Thorman was not a ML 1st baseman, why not try him out at 1st??? Oh no, can't send him down for a few weeks to learn, the majors is just fine! So, learn to hit in the ML level, play a new position, and catch once in a blue moon. Then the Rangers decided his swing was too long(Which may very well be true) and shortened it. It looks better to me , and he's walking a lot more...but, he was called up before Laird was hurt! What was the point??? Learn by sitting??? He's still only 23......

  14. This proves J.P. Ricciardi is an idiot. And how you liking the offense without Frank Thomas??? Dumbass!!! Dunn doesn't show it much, but he loves baseball by Ken Rosenthal Timothy Kremchek, the Reds' team physician, had an immediate reaction when he heard the criticisms that Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi leveled at Reds left fielder Adam Dunn. "I laughed," Kremchek said. "I thought, 'If you only knew.'" Kremchek, unlike Ricciardi, knows Dunn quite well. The two met in 1998, shortly after the Reds drafted Dunn, in the private box of the team's late owner, Marge Schott. In addressing the notion that Dunn lacks passion and dislikes baseball, as Ricciardi alleged last week during a radio interview, Kremchek said that just the opposite was true. "There is no player in this game that I've ever treated who had the things that he had and continued to play," Kremchek said. Dunn, a former quarterback who received a football scholarship to the University of Texas before turning to baseball full-time, maintains his football mentality with injuries. In 2005, he played with a broken right hand for a substantial portion of the season. The injury was not revealed until the following January when Jerry Narron, then the Reds' manager, said that Dunn, "broke his hand twice last year and wouldn't let us X-ray it because he wanted to play." "I could feel the bone moving in his hand," Kremchek said. "It wasn't something that was going to cause permanent damage, but it hurt like hell. When I pushed on it, you could tell." Kremchek also recalled a night when Dunn, 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, ran into a wall, required 12 to 15 stitches to repair a gash in his leg and played the next day. Then there was the time, Kremchek said, when Dunn bowled over a catcher in San Diego, wound up with a swollen, bruised leg and again remained in the lineup, refusing to acknowledge the injury. Finally, Kremchek talked about Dunn playing with an injured right knee for nearly two seasons before finally undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus last Sept. 26. "Last year, early in the season, he couldn't stop in the outfield," Kremcheck said. "But he didn't come out of games. He never complained. He never told the manager he couldn't play." Dunn missed the final six games, but only after appearing in 152. He also played in 160 or more games in each of the previous three seasons, as well as 158 in 2002, his first full season. His only career trip to the disabled list was in '03, when he did not play after Aug. 15 due to a sprained ligament in his left thumb. Kremchek acknowledged that Dunn does not always show passion on the field, at times looking lackluster, like he doesn't care. But he strongly disputes Ricciardi's suggestion that Dunn is some kind of baseball slacker, "It's not true," Kremchek said. "It isn't. I will tell you that for a fact." http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8276984...3162&ATT=49
  15. Kind of surprised not to see more of his witisms here, so thought I'd post a few a guy on a Braves blog posted.... 16. I thought he was pretty funny for the most part...and as mentioned before, his stuff sticked more than other folks, even the silly stuff! I couldn't find it on the web, but anyone remember his joke about how he thought gremlins broke into your car when you were away from it, and turned the volume knob way up, just to watch you jump when you started it back up??? They still get me several times a month!
  17. What, he'd dead too????
  18. Anyone ever see the Nero Wolfe show that ran on NBC in the early 80's? William Conrad was Wolfe...Don't think it ran too long.
  19. Was Yosemite Sam the team mascot then???? And why does Calas sound so happy??? Thought he was always with the Phillies??? And Cesar Cedeno, a blast from the past! The next Willie Mays, right???
  20. Paps, thought you might find this interesting...from mlbtraderumors.com Rays Promote Price to Double-A MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli writes that the Tampa Bay Rays have promoted David Price to AA Montgomery. Price, the #1 overall pick in the 2007 draft, is on the fast-track to the major leagues, and there has been speculation that he could join the big league club before season's end. This most recent promotion could be a step towards that outcome. Price made six starts for Class A Vero Beach, going 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA and posting a brilliant 37:7 K:BB ratio in 34.2 IP. He could start for Montgomery as soon as Thursday. A lot could happen over the next month or two, but if Price continues to baffle minor league hitters, he could shoot up to the major leagues quickly and be a factor as the Rays try to secure a spot in the postseason. Remember, Andrew Miller didn't even have a month's worth of experience when the Tigers brought him up to the big league club back in 2006.
  21. Whoever first said that you can never have too much pitching...was a genius!!!! If there ever was a team that seemed to have an embarrassment of starters, it's the Red Sox. I'd still say you guys were "ok" if Buchholz straightens his act out, and Beckett stays healthy. And how many Sox fans said get rid of Wakefield already this year? Perhaps you guys will be doing more than just driving up the price on Sabathia!
  22. Switch-pitcher causes commotion in Minor League game
  23. Let's see...last night, the Reds beat the Yankees. Pirates beat the Jays. Houston beat Tampa Bay. San Diego beat Detroit. Washington beat Texas. Cubs beat the White Sox. Did I forget anyone??? Oh yeah, the big bad Cards, minus their one superstar Albert Pujols, and with a guy on the mound who any team could have picked up for next to nothing in the middle of spring training getting the win against the Red Sox...Yeah, you're right, the NL does suck! Seriously, Dave Duncan has to be the best pitching coach in all of baseball, right??? Kyle Lohse has 9 wins right now, hasn't had more than 9 wins since 2003??? 3.63 ERA this year, 4.73 for the career?Jeff Weaver gets released by the Angels in 2006, ends up a WS star that same year with the Cards??? Is terrible in 2007, and gets released from AAA this year???? He should write a book if he hasn't already.....

  25. Securing the legal rights to music used in a TV series when it is re-released in another form is often a nightmare. It's one of the reasons why I never got the DVD's of St. Elsewhere because I heard that some of the songs and music originally used couldn't be put on the DVD. That's ALSO why the DVD release of Freaks & Geeks took four years---securing the rights to all the songs sampled in the series took that long. As for The Fugitive, it's a crying shame, and very frustrating, but not all that uncommon. When you're bored sometime, read the comments about WKRP's dvd release on Amazon...they really pissed a lot of people off not getting the rights to the music...
