  1. I saw an eBay listing for a Zoot Sims/Al Cohn records on the Fred Miles Presents label. A google search didn't turn anything up except a popsike listing of the same lp sold in 2006 (for 127 usd). Can anyone tell me more about this label?

  2. Getting a copy of Way Out Wardell was quite a revelation for me in the '70's. It wasn't recorded by the Biharis I don't think but was issued on Crown. The version of Blue Lou is probably my favorite Wardell solo. It seems copies of this sold at a bit of a premium for awhile, even when still in shrink wrap with a 99 cent sticker in place.

  3. Pitchers. Bah.

No idea what this specifically refers to...

Refers to Matt Harrison going along swimmingly, like his head's in a good place, which means he's got his game all the way on, and then out of nowhere walking two and then throwing up a three run gopher ball, anf then immediately thereafter returning us to our regularly scheduled programming, like nothing ever happened.

 That was extra special because the gopher ball was hit by the 9th place hitter. There are some guys who are just famous for doing what you described, and yet I can't name a single one right now. The brain sometimes has a great way of forgetting pain. :)

Loopy lefty Matt Young lost game 3-1 in 1992 while with the Red Sox, an 8 inning no hitter, 7 walks, 6 strikeouts.

  4. Well I have seen enough of Adrian Gonzalez and I no longer curse the day the Red Sox didn't get Mark Texeira. After that brutal start the Bosox are just 2.5 games out of first. Maybe a little lost in the shuffle, Ortiz is off to his best start in quite a few years. In the meantime, looks like I'll get a chance to see Lackey and Matsuzaka in Pawtucket in the coming days. Is there a pitcher more difficult to watch in the majors than Dice-K?

  5. Baritone sax man Glenn Wilson and guitarist Rory Stuart will be spending the day at Connecticut College in New London next Friday. They will end the day with a concert at 7 pm. As a longtime fan of both I will be attending. If anyone else is in the area it will be $10 well spent. You will recognize me as the out of place looking middle age guy.

  6. Regarding the 1943 Carnegie concert on vinyl, would the issue to look for be the Book of the Month Club? When I saw the thread title I 1st thought of the 1948 ban as Ben Webster was briefly back and I don't think there are any commercial recordings to document his second, short stay with Ellington.

Hey Ken, you are up early.
