  1. Happy Birthday David and thanks for the great music!!
  2. I wonder how many CD's? Four? When I went on to cduniverse, I was only charged the shipping rate for 1 CD!
  3. It's a good one. Perhaps not among my top choices - see above. But definitely worth hearing/owning. Honestly, I've never heard a bad Sutton recording.
  4. Ralph was a very consistent performer, but I really like these four. Together, they provide a well-rounded overview of his talents.
  5. Me too, so obviously I think he's a great player, a giant of the baritone, actually (and many other reed instruments, too) Certainly all of his Reservoir dates are very consistent. But here's two that I think are really outstanding. This one has Nick has no less than 10 reed instruments, overdubbing in various combinations to provide ensembles and backgrounds for solos. i'd agree with you Vic. Brignola was a killer player and he is sorely missed. he's a local hero where i'm from and i was fortunate to see him a few times. he played frequently here with another local hero - guitarist chuck d'aloia. i have a somewhat rare cd from the band they co-lead: Endangered Species. good stuff. Nick was the man... Here are two with D'Aloia on guitar - a fine player.
  6. Thanks to all. And Don, thanks for the invite. Will drop in next time I find an excuse to be downtown on Friday!
  7. I think this thread is about the Stan Kenton set The Complete Capitol Recordings of the Holman and Russo Charts (Mosaic MD4-136), not about the Kenton Presents Bob Cooper, Bill Holman and Frank Rosolino set (Mosaic MD4-185). Yes, you're right. My bad. But the set of this thread is even better. I consider it essential band jazz.
  8. It's a great set. I especially like the Rosolino tracks. Grab it.
  9. Nice track. I remember Bruce from his days on Maynard's band where he was a featured soloist. And I do mean featured - take a listen to MF Horn 4 & 5 Live at Jimmy's. Bruce has more solo space than any sideman by far and about as much as the Boss himself. I think Bruce also played with Woody Herman for a time.
  10. I was making some CDR's for fellow Board members, and ran into this. Never had it before. Halfway through the burn, the CDR is ejected with the message bad disc or diry disc. But they are new discs and it happens with a couple of different brands. It's a pain, because once they're ejected they're toast. I slowed down the burn speed to the slowest possible but it still happens. It also happens when when I try a burn from one drive to another. Any possible solutions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  11. That's good to hear. The Gerald Wilson Mack Avenue Big Band Cd's have been inconsistent their recording quality - the L.A. Band - very good; New York Band - not so much IMO. BTW, the new Ron Carter Great Big Band CD on Sunnyside is very good, IMO.
  12. I believe it's because of demands from the estate of Richard Carpenter, the "composer" of the tune. Yeah, so they'd rather get nothing than something reasonable and fair. Never can understand that kind of thinking.
  13. Not just reissue of the year, but "issue" of the year, period.
  14. Just got a refund of $4.27 from Amazon on the low-price guarantee. This really works! Cost me $32 plus change Canadian. Just now watching the DVD. Great deal, I would say.
  15. Just got the shipping notice. Since the Amazon Canada warehouse is literally minutes from my home I'll probably have it tomorrow. At least that's the usual pattern.
  16. Kevin: I think you're going to have to overcome your aversion to traps that actually kill mice.
  17. Agree with BillF's nominations above, and I may think of some more, but another one for me is Roy Hargrove.
  18. Probably depends on demand. As soon as lots of people start ordering it at the lower price, they jack the price a little. Free enterprise, you know.
  19. Yep, darn near impossible, isn't it? My five: Blanton/Webster Great Paris Concert Far East Suite Blues in Orbit and an outsider in a way, but one I love for its fabulous recorded sound: Hot Summer Dance
  20. there is the unlikely, but completely plausible possibility, that another individual might have used bill's computer. i don't personally feel that to be the case here, but we should consider it. A plausible possiblilty? Sounds pretty far-fetched. Not one of us here knows all the details and I know you have to consider all the evidence in total, but to me, that sounds like the kind of last ditch argument that a defense lawyer would throw out hoping to raise just a bit of doubt in jurors' minds.
  21. Just ordered from Worlds Records - man, this Board costs me a LOT of money! Don't know whether to feel or .
