Have them all. Lucky me! It is a great band. 👍 Now: This was Stan's last band. Probably not the best representation of the Kenton Band. Stan was in bad shape, physically and cognitively, having suffered a skull fracture less than a year prior which almost killed him. He went back on the road too soon. The musicians did their best, but it was tough going. Is this the Bill Potts' version? If so, 👍. I have the CD edition with Potts' name on front.

I can agree with much of that. I enjoy 'Trane's tenor sound more from the earlier period (Prestige and most of the Atlantic recordings).

👍 👍 Now: This one is really good. Wayne Shorter's music, like the music of Horace Silver, translates exceptionally well into big band arrangements.

Very good recording. John LaBarbera also has three excellent Big Band CD's on the Jazz Compass label. All are worth checking out along with this new one.
