  1. Yes, sad new. R.I.P. I have several examples of John's playing in my collection, CD's under his own name and as a sideman with Danny D'Imperio and others. A real bopper. There are several examples on YouTube of John soloing with the Buddy Rich Killer Force Band in '77-'78. He shared solo duties in the Rich Band with another excellent trumpet player named Mike McGovern.

  3. 👍 Now: Regarding the recent thread about these releases, this is a pretty good one, I think.
  4. I really like this one too. Excellent band. The opening track is called "Hark, the Duke's Trumpets" with no trumpet sounds at all. The tune was as yet untitled so I suspect Duke gave it this impromptu title as the trumpets filed on stage, late.
