  1. We are way behind in Canada. My wife and I (both 65) get the first shot (Pfizer) on April 22 then the second shot 105 days later. Too long.
  2. It's excellent, for the very reason you say - many seldom played Ellington pieces with interesting arrangements. Very, very good band, and Jack Walrath is excellent. So too is drummer Jeff Brillinger. I don't know his playing (other than with Woody Herman) but he is perfect for the date, always tasteful and swinging.
  3. True enough. Hank was the first pianist in the Thad Jones- Mel Lewis Band and his solos (studio or live with that band are marvelous). Replaced by Roland Hanna who wasn't too bad either! Now listening to this fine CD:
  4. Jan 31, 1948 - April 5, 2021 R.I.P. I enjoy Andy's playing and recordings, including his solos with Buddy Rich on Grand Concourse and If You Could See Me Now, a.o.
  5. For sure. Good as all the drummers were that played with Dexter - Billy Higgins, Art Taylor, Tootie Heath, Eddie Gladden and all the others , it struck me as I was listening that Kenny Clarke arguably gave Dexter the very best drum support he ever had. Now:
  6. I hadn't heard Live at Jimmy's in quite a while and while I knew it was good, it seemed to sound particularly good today when I played it. It was one of those albums I cut my jazz baby teeth on back in the mid 70's. Yes, Color Him Wild is a really good one, and so too is this recent reissue of his 2 Cameo recordings (between the Roulette and Mainstream years, I believe).
  7. Really good recording.
