I've been looking for the following 2 CDs for a long while, and it seems that they cannot be found. Has anyone seen them?
Frank Gratkowski & Georg Graewe, "Vicissetudes" (Random Acoustics)
John Lindberg, "East Side Suite" (Sound Aspects)
Of course if you have either and would be willing to trade/sell, that'd be even better!!

Thanks. I usually read just the reviews, and do not bother with the editorial. It's a shame that he is scaling back, although perfectly understandable.

I am wondering whether this website is no longer in operation, as it has not been updated for a couple of months now. That would be too bad.
-
If I remember correctly, someone on this board had mentioned a while ago a trio recording with Henry Grimes and Andrew Cyrille coming out soon. The person seemed to have inside knowledge. Anyone out there know?

This is a trio recording with Morris, Ken Vandermark, & Luther Gray. Excellent music. Morris is my favorite guitarist; he can do no wrong (although he has at times shown some weakness for sidemen and collaborators given to bombast). I don't really *get* Vandermark. But even he is great here.

I am really enjoying this. I have 4 other recordings by this group, but do not remember enjoying them as much. The group sounds as madcap and free and tight as the latest ICP recording.
-
Forgot to mention: Georg Graewe.
-
My favorites are:
Guus Janssen
Achim Kaufman
Both are also very nice guys who are professorial rather than showmanish. But their piano playing and composing are as radical as they come.
-
I had forgotten to say in the orig. post that I have just won on eBay a copy of "Tricotism". Looking forward to its arrival. Thanks for other suggestions, folks.
-
I have "Lucky Strikes" and "Lucky in Paris". I am enjoying both a lot. Could you recommend others that you have enjoyed?
-
This one is leaving me a bit cold. A nice date by a nice man. But there is no fire, it seems.
-
A comment on Amazon says that the bass on this CD (played by Joe Morris) is very very loud. Has anyone else noticed this? And if this is the case, is it really bothersome? I am asking because I enjoy some of Dickey's other recordings but I have also had some bad experience with recordings with overmiked basses. (Chris Lightcap's recordings come to mind.)
-
Up for air.

Just added: Ornette Coleman, "Soapsuds, Soapsuds".

The W&W website lists a new live recording by Motian's Trio 2000 band. This looks very good. Appearances by Kikuchi and Osby.
-
You must be too influenced by the first cut since you use the word "sappy".
You must be too young to have memories of the TV program where this melody served as theme music.
Listen to the music if you can't "get" the irony.
I hope you love it - I do.
Very nice OC date.
Well, I don't know anything about the TV show, but that is probably b/c I did not grow up in this country. In any case, I will give this a more sustained try. Thanks for the advice.
-
Fortunately, the CD plays perfectly fine. But I am not sure about the music. It's a bit . . . sappy. Given what you all say about it, I will definitely give it more of a try. If my misgivings about it continue, you will see this listed on a FT/FS list.

I just picked up a very scratched up copy at a used CD store. I had never seen a copy of this before. I hope it plays fine. Am I right in thinking that this is rather hard to find?
Hard drive recommendations wanted.

Although I have a desktop with plenty of memory in my office, at home I use a laptop with only 60 gigs of memory, and I am thinking of getting an external hard drive to store music. I tried this once before, but the hard drive I purchased was so noisy that it did not serve its purpose and I sent it back. Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive and quiet hard drive? I am thinking of something like 250-300 gigs. Physical attractiveness would be a plus. Thanks in advance.
