  1. I love Rumpelstiltskin! I have several different versions but my favorite is on In Person. This one is very good. I also checked out 1-2-3-Go-O-O-O! That was good as well! I'm looking forward to this.
  2. Well I can't wait to get both in May. I'm just thankful they've finally been released on CD. I went to YouTube to listen to a few tracks from Music, You All and I enjoyed it! I definitley agree. It's great he has so much music out but I would've loved to see what else he would do for the 2nd half of the 70's and at least into the 80's.
  3. I just saw that dusty groove will be releasing Music, You All and The Price You Got To Pay To Be Free on CD in May. https://www.dustygroove.com/item/788179 https://www.dustygroove.com/item/788181 I do like most of the Black Messiah but there are songs on there that I simply just have to pass. Are these two albums similar better or worse?
  4. Thank you guys for giving me so many recommendations. I decided to get Black Fire, Judgement, and Pax. Nobody mentioned Pax but I saw Freddie Hubbard and Joe Henderson are on it so it has to be pretty good I would assume. I want to get Dance with Death but I could not find it anywhere for a reasonable price.
  5. I just bought three Andrew Hill CD's: Grass Roots, Change, and Passing Ships. I'm looking for which albums I should get next by him. I know Point of Depature is widely considered his best and most famous album and I am not that crazy about it. I listened to for the first time when I was 12 years old and now I'm 24 and I like it a little bit more but not enough to buy at the moment.
  6. http://www.amazon.com/Last-Word-Warner-Bros-Years/dp/B016E29ZIK/ref=sr_1_7?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1444924196&sr=1-7&keywords=miles+davis&refinements=p_n_date%3A1249114011 Does anybody know about this? I see it's 8 discs. I know a few years ago Warner Bros. UK released a 5 disc box set with material mostly from his albums on it. Is this more unreleased stuff or is extra live material that never made it on to the live around the wolrd concert? Any guesses?
  7. I have so many of those already. I don't even understand why a lot of those were released so many years later.
  8. "Goin' Down" South is incredible!!!
  9. Extensions is very good. I need to still get Expansions as well. I think I will give Head on another chance possibly later this week. I just listened to "The Dude" on Electric Byrd. It reminded me a lot of Fat Albert Rotunda so I believe I'll definitley enjoy this.
  10. So far there has been 7 titles recommended to me that I will purchase. The 70's blue notes surely won't get the same attention as the 50's or 60's material but I could see myself having a pretty good amount.
  11. Is Odyssey of Iska better than Moto Grosso Feio? I'm trying to understand that album but its kind of extreme. Supernova is pretty similar right? Odyssey of Iska is one of Wayne Shorter's best, in my opinion. I just checked it out and liked it way more than Moto Grosso Feio. "Calm" was amazing.
  12. I have so many from those two decades so it only makes sense to get some stuff from the 70's. I don't have EVERY good release from those decades but I have enough at the moment.
  13. Wow I just listened to two tracks from Knucklebean. I might buy that CD tonight. That was excellent!! I checked out the Bobbi Humphrey tunes with Lee and I didn't like it too much. The Sidewinder was decent but I don't know if it is just because it was familiar. Plus I don't collect any vinyl. I'm 22 so all I know is CD's and MP3's basically. My dad said I should consider buying some LP's but I'm not sure yet.
  14. Is Odyssey of Iska better than Moto Grosso Feio? I'm trying to understand that album but its kind of extreme. Supernova is pretty similar right?
  15. I just checked out "Delphi" from the New Heritage album and I liked it! Is Knucklebean anything like Head On because I was very dissapointed in that. That was recommended to me and it's kind of halted my progress in buying other Hutcherson CD's. I like him on Gettin' Around and The Procrastinator but I'm skeptical about buying albums where he's the leader. Lol I'll pass on the Noel Pointer. I think Phatazia, is that how you spell it? Was the album I've heard by him and it didn't do anything for me. Been looking for that Lee Morgan boxset for a while. I'm trying to find one near $30-35 bucks. Should I just buy it at $50 plus?
  16. I'm looking for good blue note albums during the 70's. I'm looking for actual material that was recorded in that decade. So no rainbow series albums or anything like that. I've gotten some CD's from the 70's already. I have enjoyed Horace Silver's In Pursuit of the 27th Man and the Silver N' Series. However I hated the United States of Mind Trilogy (expect That Healin' Feelin', the title track) I also enjoyed Lee Morgan's Last Album but wasn't crazy about Bobby Hutcherson's Head on. I am interested in any straight ahead jazz and some early mild fusion but nothing like Donald Byrd's Black Byrd, Street Lady and etc.
  17. Unfortunately it wouldn't be practical for me to purchase this now. I have so many of the tracks already. This would've been perfect to purchase several months back.
  18. http://www.amazon.com/Ca-Purange-Dexter-Gordon/dp/B00000GC15%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAJJ2FE4FYH4GZOFZA%26tag%3Dconmusgro-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB00000GC15 I looked at Amazon first. I'm trying to find it for cheaper than 33 dollars.
  19. Over the past several months I have been buying many of the Dexter albums reccommended to me and I very happy with them all. I am looking for a copy of Ca'Purange at a reasonable price. Does anyone know where I can find one? I want the CD not the vinyl.
  20. Yes not boring but for me Lee and Billy Higgins are the standout on this tune. Hank's solo of course wasn't bad and he never is bad but I've also heard better from him. The best playing of Hank IMO is on Miles' Blackhawk albums.
  21. Wow I am going to check out the All-Stars recording. Milt, Horace and Blakey must be incredible together.
  22. I agree I'm not much of a fan of Avant-Garde jazz. However, I thought this Hutcherson recording was going to be more rooted in early jazz fusion similar to "Mwandishi". But it was just an inconsistent effort IMO. I do agree with you about Dex and Lee but Mobley I just haven't been able to get into yet. Everytime I listen to him solo something just kind of bores me about it. That is true I do agree with that. I have to keep in mind "Head On" has never really been mentioned as a classic. It's not like it "Happenings" or "Dialogue" I mentioned. I was thinking about purchasing some Elvin Jones Blue Note albums. I just don't know where to begin with him. I might just buy them in chronological order.
  23. Bobby Hutcherson's Head On was a disappointment to me. I checked out some samples of it and every track sounded great. Well I guess whoever did the samples did a great job of picking out the best 30 seconds of each track. There was only one song I truly enjoyed and that was the bonus track "Jonathan". This was my first and only Hutcherson purchase. I do see myself getting more albums of his. "Oblique" and "San Francisco" both sounded good to me. I also was somewhat disappointed in Lee Morgan's Delightfulee. I just started my Lee Morgan collection this February and have bought 11 or 12 albums of his. Everything has been superb but this was one I was expecting a little more from and I didn't get that. The quintet tracks were lacking something and I don't really know what it was. The big band tracks were also somewhat of a letdown. I haven't given up on this CD yet though.
  24. Everybody thank you so much for all the posts its so much music to check out but I'm certainly not complaining! After Trane, Dex is my favorite tenor player so I'm trying to build my collection up!
