  1. Now playing: Ralph Peterson Quintet - V (Blue Note/Somethin' Else, 1989) with Terence Blanchard, Steve Wilson, Geri Allen (!!!), and Phil Bowler
  2. I'll be getting this one, for sure.
  3. Next up: Michael Carvin - The Camel (rec. 1975) Another SteepleChase > Inner City release Sonny Fortune plays some lovely soprano sax on this album.
  4. Now: Lee Konitz - Lone-Lee: Solo (Inner City, rec. 1974) licensed from SteepleChase Earlier: Neil Ardley - A Symphony of Amaranths (Regal Zonophone, 1971) Wah Wah Records (ES) 2018 vinyl reissue I tracked down that LP after you recommended it a few years ago.
  5. Me neither. The original album is perfection. Why mess with it?
  6. Yes!!! AMAZING music!
  7. Richard "Groove" Holmes - New Groove (Groove Merchant, 1974) with O'Donel Levy, Bernard Purdie, and others
  8. - Tracks 1 to 6 originally released as Travelin' Light with Kenny Burrell. - Tracks 7 to 12 originally released as Soul Sister.
  9. Now streaming: Winstone's brilliant debut as a leader -- with a Who's-Who of Brit jazzers supporting her.
  10. The Michael Garrick Sextet with Norma Winstone - The Heart is a Lotus (Argo, 1970) Vocalion CD reissue
  11. Now streaming: Ryo Kawasaki - Ring Toss (Chiaroscuro, 1977) with Larry Willis, Sam Morrison, Badal Roy, and others Interesting music that aims high and convincingly pulls in disparate elements. I hear some echoes of McLaughlin (and Shakti) in Kawasaki's playing & music -- but not disturbingly so. I particularly dig the vocalist, Rhada Shottam, who contributes wordless vocals à la Norma Winstone. Speaking of Winstone . . . She is fantastic on that record! That's my "go to" record for Nucleus, in no small part because of her.
  12. Most definitely. Charles Stepney !!! Stone classic!
  13. Roscoe Mitchell - Nonaah (Nessa) 2-CD version with bonus cuts
  14. Last night and today: An extraordinary band and an amazing trilogy.
  15. Woody Herman - Herd at Montreux (Fantasy, 1974) Continuing my recent exploration of WH's 1970s recordings for Fantasy. I think this live album is a shade less convincing than the studio LPs from around the same time. There's no problem with the band's playing. I'm just not as keen on the repertoire.
  16. You can’t go wrong with the Terry Waldo stuff, imo. Those are the only Blackbird records I know.
