  6. Next up: A powerful version of RVW's Fifth.
  7. From my Ives site: Many years after publishing the work, Ives remarked that the "Concord" Sonata was his one work that never seemed finished; it was a perpetual work in motion, a continual improvisation: "I don't know as I shall ever write [my improvisations] out, as it may take away the daily pleasure of playing this music and seeing it grow and feeling that it is not finished... I may always have the pleasure of not finishing it..." . . . I love that quote, that way of thinking about music. It's a jazz-like way of relating to music rather than a stance one normally associates with "classical" music.
  8. More Baden Powell vinyl finds: Baden Powell & Vinicius De Moraes - Afro-Samba (Barclay/Movieplay, originally released in 1966) I'm super-excited to have this LP. It's in pristine condition too. I think this music marks the beginning of Powell's most fertile period as an artist -- from (roughly speaking) the mid-60s to the mid-70s. Baden Powell - S/T (Barclay/Movieplay, 1971) Baden Powell - O Som De Baden Powell (Elenco, 1968) I was very surprised and pleased to find this LP. It's a Brazilian release that was never issued in the U.S. or Europe.
