  3. More from "The First Lady of Song": Jazz singing doesn't get any better than this. with Ben Webster, Stuff Smith, and others
  4. A fitting description for many ECM albums.
  5. Doc & Merle Watson ‎- Lonesome Road / Look Away! (Southern Music Distribution) LPs originally released on U.A. in 1977 and 1978
  6. Spinning this again: Horn's version of "Estate" on this LP is something special.
  7. I have that exact same reaction when I listen to those records! Because they're all so good! Superb.
  8. NP: Mario Bauzá & the Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra - 944 Columbus (Messidor, 1994) Good one!
  9. I agree! It's my favorite Forrest too. You're right: Oscar's version is very different -- but I still like his take on the tune. Night Train is probably the Peterson trio album that I pull from the shelf most often. That said, I know that Oscar Peterson talk is dangerous territory! Like uttering the word "Marsalis," it usually invokes embittered grumblings -- both pro and con -- amongst us forum environs. So, with that, I bow out!!! Less controversially, I'm listening to Jimmy Rowles -- with bassist Michael Moore:
  10. Now: Al Haig with Jamil Nasser - Interplay (Seabreeze, 1976) Earlier: Marian McPartland - Willow Creek and Other Ballads (Concord, 1985)
  11. Thanks for the heads-up, jazzcorner.
  12. Now: Various Artists - They All Played Bebop (Columbia, 1982) Sides 3 & 4 - leftover cuts from the I Remember Bebop sessions
  13. We were talking about Ruby Braff the other day . . . Them There Eyes (Sonet UK, 1976)
  14. Now on my 'table: Nancy Wilson - Tender Loving Care (Capitol, 1966) arranged by Billy May Thanks for the tip on this one, JSngry.
  15. Illinois Jacquet in Swinging Sweden (Skarby International, 1978) with Joe Newman, Jimmy Rowles, George Duvivier, and Walter Perkins Rowles was feelin' it, and that's always a good thing.
  16. Well, I discovered that LP while I was working on my 70s jazz blog. I liked the album -- but it didn't whack me upside the head, so I didn't dig more deeply. Recently, I circled back around to Jackie & Roy again, and this time I really fell hard for them. A Wilder Alias and other stuff besides. I've been listening to them a lot lately. I've discovered that I really enjoy most of their music thru the years -- but especially their recordings from the 1970s and 1980s. It's been fun.
