  1. Totally agree that Jackie and Rene sound great together. New York Calling !!! NP:
  2. Yes indeed! I've been particularly enjoying "Patanjali" !! Good one!
  3. I agree, Rab! Desert-island music.
  4. More Max! with Booker Little and Eric Dolphy and Mal Waldron, et al Five stars isn't nearly enough.
  5. Is it "heretical" to admit that I think Max's records with Booker Little are MUCH better than the records he made with Clifford Brown? ...Even it is, I'm still saying it.
  6. You're right, Gheorghe. It is a studio record. It's my understanding that the band was playing regularly at Basin Street in NYC around the time of the recording. Maybe that's why they chose that title?
  7. More Dexter: And Hawk:
  8. Wow. That's interesting. Are you sure that it isn't "new old stock" -- an album that just never sold or got opened? I HOPE it becomes more widely available.
  9. I don't know, Jim. Wouldn't surprise me if it was. Seems like that LP was very much a "Let's make a double-album/statement" record for McDuff.
  10. Josh Roseman - New Constellations: Live in Vienna (Enja/Accurate, 2007) with Peter Apfelbaum, Ambrose Akinmusire, Marvin Sewell, and others Jazz meets ska/reggae meets electronica. Not for purists -- but I like it. I think Roseman is very adept at cross-fertilization. The we-can-go-anywhere aspects of this music remind me of The Roots, with whom Roseman has recorded. Agreed! Thanks for sharing those images, jazzcorner!
  11. Yep. Not the same record. Sorry 'bout that, felser.
  12. Two magnificent saxophone trio records !!! Whoop! Whoop! NP: Richard "Groove" Holmes - Soul Message (Prestige)
  13. I got One for Me on CD, directly from Arc Records' Bandcamp site. ImportCDs might be less expensive though. You found it. Dusty Groove seems to have the best prices. If they're out of stock, I just set the notification to let me know when/if they get it.
  14. Sometimes, bombastic music is fun. Prokofiev: Alexander Nevsky; Lieutenant Kijé / Ormandy, Philadelphia O, et al (RCA/Dutton Epoch SACD)
  15. I think you'll enjoy it! I'm glad Pure Pleasure is reissuing so many Strata-East titles. They aren't cheap -- but they're A LOT less expensive than the price the original vinyl is fetching. So I've plopped for a few of them. .... Sorta related: Did you get the Arc Records reissue of Shirley's Scott's One for Me? It features more ESSENTIAL Harold Vick on Strata-East. .... Now, we just need to get Arc Records or Pure Pleasure or SOMEBODY to reissue Jack McDuff's The Heatin' System. IMO, it's one of the best Soul Jazz records of the 70s. More people need to hear it!
  16. Andrew Hill - Blue Black (Eastwind/Test of Time) with Jimmy Vass (as, ss, fl), Chris White (b), and Leroy Williams (d) and Andrew Hill - Live at Montreux (Arista/Freedom) solo piano Two outstanding Andrew Hill releases, both recorded in '75.
  17. One of those records that doesn't ever get old.
  18. This afternoon's line up: Yeah, I agree 100%. Golson and Chico O'Farrill are two excellent composer/arrangers.
