  1. Dave Liebman & Richie Beirach - Balladscapes (Intuition, 2016)
  2. More superlative Jackie McLean -- along with a certain vibraphonist that I really enjoy: Grachan Moncur III - Mosaic Select 1 Disc 1 - Originally released as McLean's One Step Beyond and Destination... Out! Jackie turned out one masterpiece after another during these years.
  3. Larry Willis Trio - The Big Push (HighNote) with Buster Williams and Al Foster
  4. Such expressive, timeless music!
  5. Anita O'Day - Recorded Live at the Berlin Jazz Festival (MPS)
  6. Eric Dolphy! Phew!
  7. Michael Garrick Quintet - October Woman (Argo/Vocalion) Michael Garrick Trio - Cold Mountain (Argo/Vocalion)
  8. Johannes Brahms: Chamber Music (Complete) (Brilliant Classics) Disc 8 - Sonatas for Violin & Piano, Nos. 1 - 3 / György Pauk & Roger Vignoles
  9. Brahms: Complete Variations for Solo Piano / Garrick Ohlsson (Hyperion) Disc 1: - Theme and variations for piano in D minor (after sextet for strings, Op. 18) - Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Handel, for piano, in B flat major, Op. 24 - Variations on an Original Theme in D major for piano, Op. 21/1 - Variations on a Hungarian song for piano in D major, Op. 21/2
  10. O.K. I'm listening to it right now via YT. I know Klemperer's studio M2 with the Philharmonia, Schwarzkopf & Rössl-Majdan -- but I've never heard this live version before. You won't regret it!
  11. Gerry Mulligan - Verve Jazz Masters 36 Solid compilation of recordings with the Concert Jazz Band.
  12. Oh yes. I like that one too. Walter's DLvdE with Ferrier is the recording that most folks rave about, but I actually like the Hafliger/Miller version just as much. That said, Kubelik's live recording with Janet Baker and Waldemar Kmentt is my "desert-island" choice. For whatever reason, Klemperer's Mahler -- including the Wunderlich/Ludwig DLvdE that you mention -- has never really grabbed me. I like Klemps in other repertoire, but not so much in Mahler.
  13. Enrico Pieranunzi - Untold Story (EGEA, rec. 1993) with Marc Johnson & Paul Motian
  14. This is also my favorite M8 -- by a considerable margin. It's so much more subtle than other versions. You can hear continuity with the transparent textures that reappear in Das Lied von der Erde. I never heard the connection between these works so clearly until I heard Ozawa's recording. NP: Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4, etc. / Ormandy, Philadelphia O (Sony) IMO, the plush, luxuriant sound that Ormandy favors is a perfect match for this music.
  15. Todd Rundgren - A Wizard, a True Star (Bearsville, 1973) Todd Rundgren's Utopia (Bearsville, 1974)
  16. Mary Lou Williams - Nite Life (Chiaroscuro, 1971) Disc 1
  17. Roland Hanna - 24 Preludes, Books 1 & 2 (Salvation/King) with George Mraz
  18. Really enjoying listening to Bill Evans' music today:
  19. Bill Evans - The Brilliant (Timeless)
  20. The Bill Evans Trio - Since We Met (Fantasy, 1974) with Eddie Gomez & Marty Morell
  21. The Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions 1956-1961 (Mosaic) Disc 1
