  1. Jimmy Raney - Momentum (MPS/PAUSA)
  2. Jimmy Smith & Wes Montgomery - Jimmy & Wes: The Dynamic Duo (Verve) Such a wonderful, effortless groove.
  3. felser, The only Blakey book of which I'm aware is Hard Bop Academy: The Sidemen of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers by Alan Goldsher. It's not exactly a biography. It's more an oral history of Blakey as told by his sidemen. I wouldn't call it "essential," but I did enjoy it.
  4. This is also one of my favorite Griffin records from that period -- along with The Return of the Griffin on Galaxy. Both are superb, imho.
  5. Joachim Kühn - This Way Out (MPS) with Gerd Dudek, Peter Warren & Daniel Humair
  6. John Lee & Gerry Brown - Bamboo Madness (Limetree) featuring Chris Hinze, Gary Bartz and Jasper van 't Hof Some 1970s fyoo-shun that avoids clichés and therefore doesn't come across as locked in time. Bartz in particular sounds really good.
  7. Al Haig - Piano Interpretation (Seabreeze) Recorded 1976.
  8. Cladio Fasoli / Franco D'Andrea - Jazz Duo (Dire)
  9. For what it's worth: I didn't get any shipping notice whatsoever on my recent order. But I got it fine. It took a little more than 2 weeks to arrive.
  10. Didn't know that one existed. Quite the line-up. Looks interesting. EDIT: I just found it on YouTube. In case others might want to give it a listen:
  11. Coleman Hawkins - Hollywood Stampede (Capitol) Hawk sounds magnificent on these sides. Maggie too.
  12. Earl Hines in New Orleans (Chiaroscuro)
  13. Duke Ellington - Soul Call (Verve) CD reissue with bonus tracks. Superb.
  14. The Complete 1932-1940 Brunswick, Columbia & Master Recordings of Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra (Mosaic) Disc 6
  15. Count Basie 3 - For the Second Time (Pablo) David Friedman - Of the Wind's Eye (Enja) Terrific music and terrific sound recording. A demonstration disc.
  16. Freddie Hubbard - Outpost (Enja)
  17. Genesis - Wind & Wuthering (Atco)
  18. I've always wondered about that "Tracey Plays Ellington" record. I've never heard it. What do you think of it, aparxa? (Or others?)
  19. Ultimate Beethoven: The Essential Masterpieces (Decca) Disc 4 - Violin Concerto; Violin Romances Nos. 1 & 2 / Henryk Szyerng, Bernard Haitink, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
  20. Ralph Towner - Time Line (ECM) Dave Holland - Emerald Tears (ECM) I suppose stringed instruments like the guitar or bass are a bit of a "cheat" because -- like pianos -- they offer harmonic possibilities that aren't open to one-note-at-a-time instruments like saxophones or trumpets.
  21. I wish I could be there for these performances. The closest I'll ever come to being at the Keystone -- aside from hearing the recordings -- is this book: https://www.amazon.com/Keystone-Korner-Portrait-Jazz-Club/dp/0253356911
  22. More Brahms: Arthur Rubinstein Plays Brahms (RCA/Sony) Disc 6 - Piano Trios Nos. 1 & 2 with Szeryng and Fournier
  23. Brahms: String Quartets Nos. 1-3; Piano Quintet / New Budapest Quartet, Piers Lane (Hyperion)
  24. One of the great DSCH 15 recordings, I think. And Oistrakh is unsurpassed in the 2nd VC (of course).
  25. Jean Sibelius: Symphonies & Orchestral Works / Sir John Barbirolli, Hallé Orchestra (Warner Classics) Disc 4 - Syms. Nos. 5 & 7; incidental music from Pelléas et Mélisande (excerpts) Sir John's Sibelius is close to my heart. I'm no expert, but Gulda's WTC is my preference over all others I've heard.
