  1. Now spinning the first LP from this box: Franz Schubert: Lieder, Vol. 2 / Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Gerald Moore (DG)
  2. This is such terrible news. 61 is way too young.
  3. Now streaming: Electric Piano, Organ, Grand Piano – Jasper Van't Hof Alto Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Flute, Flute [Bamboo], Nadaswaram – Charlie Mariano Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Banjo – Philip Catherine Electric Bass – Bo Stief Drums – John Marshall Incidentally, this album is now available for pre-order at CDJapan. 4. This again: Some nice sax work here by Rick Margitza.
  5. NP: Sunny Murray's Untouchable Factor - Apple Cores (Philly Jazz, 1978) Yep. Hendrick's didn't have many opportunities to record in the 70s -- but Tell Me the Truth is rock-solid. I dig the Pointer Sisters' backing vocals on the opening cut, Gaillard & Stewart's "Flat Foot Floogie." I only wish the sisters would've stuck around for another track or two. A great record! I was lucky enough to snag this LP when I was in Spain last summer -- at Wah Wah Records in Barcelona. Haha! I have no doubt that my fascination with music took root in my childhood, seeing my father love music and hearing him play his records. And all those musical memories are nothing but positive.
  6. Jon Hendricks - Tell Me The Truth (Arista, 1975)
  7. Next up: Guess Who I Saw Today: Nancy Wilson Sings Songs of Lost Love (Capitol)
  8. Two new-to-me discs that recently arrived at my house: and
  9. Next up: Beethoven: Piano Sonatas Nos. 8, 13, and 14 / Emil Gilels (DG)
  10. I'm now listening to Elgar's Cello Concerto as performed by cellist André Navarra with Sir John Barbirolli & the Hallé Orchestra, as heard on this CD:
  11. Art Pepper - Friday Night at the Village Vanguard (Contemporary, rec. 1977)
  12. Kenny Burrell - Up the Street, 'Round the Corner, Down the Block (Fantasy, 1974)
  13. Next up: The Dynamic Hampton Hawes (MPS, rec. 11/1967) with Eberhard Weber (b) & Klaus Weiss (d); originally released as Hamp's Piano Stupendous. One of the finest albums in Hawes' entire discography, IMO.
  14. O.K. . . . But it's really not an issue if you're only mildly impressed by her. I really do believe that we all experience music differently. Comparing notes & differing impressions is part of the fun of this forum. Just saying. That makes sense, for sure.
  15. Wow. Really? I would never use those words to describe Ameling. I think she's an INCREDIBLE Schubert singer. One of the greatest. I guess we all hear with different ears.
