  1. Check out that rhythm section keeping the jet stream flowing all the time, and the voices knowing where their place in the current is. YEAH! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwkhoNBqkfo
  2. Glen Beck A Rabid Dog Huckleberry Hound
  3. Laddie Ladd McIntosh Peter Tosh
  4. Shoulda' left well enough alone and left all those crazy motherfuckers under one roof, for better or worse. At least the insanity was mutually inflicted and understood, and the damages spread more or less around equally. And the Rice marching band will never again have as effective a context.
  5. Manfred The Wonder Dog Tom Terrific Crabby Appleton (not so fast, not so slick, but...it's hot when it's hot and it's not when it's not...)
  6. Wait out Malaguena & then check it out. Even by hip lounge act standards, this was one hip lounge act.
  7. Well, she's an "entertainer", that's for sure, "product" to the core, but...her product makes a lot of people's feet tap and bodies move, which isn't all the triumph of marketing, although it might well be, as was said, in the singular, of Clint Longley (look it up), the triumph of many uncluttered minds... Not that there's anything wrong with that!
  8. R.J. Reynolds People Born Under The Sign Of Cancer Albert King
  9. That would have been before he had has head chopped off, right? He kept doing the impersonation afterwards, but the impact just wasn't the same.
  10. I'd rather hear Lee Konitz stop to think than I would hear most people play.
  11. HHH LBJ LL Cool J
  12. Darell Porter Harry Potter Sidney Poitier
  13. I've had two small victories, actually. One of them's actually gotten a job and moved out to start looking for small victories of his own. We don't die, we multiply!
  14. I just say that because somewhere else there was a pretty summary dismissal of Lady Gaga. Now I don't get or get into her thing at all (probably the decline of Madonna was where that whole pop-music-as-relevant-sociology breathed it's last gasp of interest to me), but - you gotta believe that her music makes the feet and bodies of those who are touched by it both pat and move, so to those people, it most certainly does swing. You & I both know how good that is, as well as how all kinds of secret places get opened up when that happens. It's a good thing! All I'm saying is that time has taught me the value of not looking a things like "swing" as being something that is quantifiable. It's just not, except within our ownselves, and, usually others of like persuasion. But othdr than, maybe, Joneses Jo & Elvin, I don't know that it is an absolute quality.
  15. Certainly can't argue that, but the other side of that coin is that you can't expect everybody's foot to pat and everybody's movilator buttons to be pushed by the same thing (or for the results to be manifested in exactly the same way), so with that in mind, there's more than one "swing" to be considered at any given time, at least objectively. But then again, such reactions are intrinsically anti-subjective, so...there you go!
  16. Joe Friday The Cast & Crew of Dragnet Milton Berle
  17. Yep. And what really, REALLY helps is getting out there and enabling those lowlife copyright violators who post "special interest" music on so called "sharity" blogs. That's how I found one (ONE!) thing by Los Hermanos Castro, and like I said, one thing leads to another. Next thing you know, there's this really nifty/wacko flip from some movie that probably none of us will ever have a chance to see (unless we dig even deeper on the internet, and...I'm motivated, but not limitlessly so, if you know what I mean). The internet's a big place!
  18. Hey, I'm not a weirdo, I just live in a world in which mine is a distinctly minority viewpoint far more often than not. But I figure that if the majority was right, why aren't things any better than they are. Not that they're just godawful World Sucks bad, but...there's still plenty room for improvement. And to quote Elvis Costello about that, I used to get disgusted, but now I only get amused. Mostly, anyway. Yet, I smile a lot more than I smirk, at least on a good day. And on a good day, I win. So...fuck em!
  19. Los Hermanos Castro, bro. All you need is a little curiosity and the internet. One thing leads to another.
  20. And nowhere did I claim that it was. Let's connect the dots here: True, but... ...meaning only that power, control and violence are indeed part of "normal" sexuality as well. And I'm not just talking about "rough sex" either, oh HELL no! A really good, hard fucking (and remember, not just men fuck, women fuck men too, they don't just get fucked by them, and in the context of this thread, men fuck and get fucked by other men too, and women...women can do damn near anything, one way or the other, and yes, that is a source of wonder, terror, and envy in many, many men) will bring out a lot of power, control, and violence activity from everybody involved at one (or more) point alone the way far more often than it won't. And thank god for that! I could provide countless examples, I'm sure most of us could, but none of them are really "suitable". All of which is to say that if behaviors of "power, control and violence" occur only in actions of assault, then sex itself would have to be viewed as being at root an act of assault, and ain't no way I'm buying that. Surely you can appreciate the difference. Wow...Merriam-Webster got issues!
  21. I don't know what that means.
  22. Yeah, you go from late-50s cornball to mid-60s quasi-Hard Day's Night cuteness to late 60s Baroque Pop to later '60s almost psychedelic/surreal imagery (that all female string section thing...wow, that predates Robert Palmer by at least one lifetime...) aqll inthe space of one quick-ish cigarette. AND it's in Spanish. Perfect world.
