  1. I say that everybody moves to Andorra (on paper, anyway) & business continues as usual. Either that, or Jordi Pujol goes on the buying spree to end all buying sprees.
  2. I'm by no means opposed to commercial/pop/dance/whatever jazz, but I have to pile on the Handy items myself. Just ain't nothin' happening there at all.
  3. I think the notion of "assertion" gets blurred into "aggression", which then gets blurred into "hostility". Why this is, I can only guess, but suffice it to say that sometimes, yes, but sometimes, no. The use of language to define behavior in an attempt to control it is potentially as much of an act of hostility as the hostility which it ostensibly seeks to contain.
  4. I'm cheating on this one b/c it's impossible to get other wise....Ryan Seacrest?!?!?!?!?!?!
  5. Andorra's technically not an EU country, right?
  6. Grace Slick
  7. Maybe they could do a 3-on-2 of The Definitive Jazz Scene sets and get it that way? Don't know why they would, though.
  8. Sorry, my bad, the cuts with Harold Land are on Chic Chic Chico, which is not included here, but which is worth seeking out, definitely. But El Chico still has Gabor aplenty, and in quite good form.
  9. For those for whom such things matter, Salt & Pepper pairs Stitt w/Paul Gonsalves. File under Neither Sucks Nor Soars, imo. The two Clark Terry dates have "commercial" concepts, but both are actually quite spirited, and could well delight many. File under Fun & Frisky. Another plug for the two Hamilton sides. Lloyd is all but gone here, but Stinson isn't, & Gabor steps out quite nicely to make up the difference. Plus, there's two tracks w/Harold Land that are worth the cost of admission their own selves. And what the hell, I'll put in recs for the Mel Brown & Sonny Criss items, fully stipulating that both were produced and aimed squarely at "the marketplace". Oh well!

  15. I know it's been posted as such on several websites, but...I need to see an original yearbook before conceding. I just don't see any resemblance, even a distant one. But if it really is her, she was cute as a bug, a lot more so than what she came to look like. In my opinion, of course.
  16. My Google tells me that too, but...I ain't buyin' it.
